I couldn't agree more. AND, I make certain that my children understand that as well.

BTW, I was at our local Walmart today. They're alotted 6 PS3's. There has been a group camped out in the garden center since yesterday morning. They have chairs, sleeping bags, and they were having lunch when I strolled by. I thought I obsessed about my hobbies . . .

What happened to the Oldtime Christmas... The Family ....being together.

These days Christmas is nothing but the selling of junk to make corporations wealthy....

toys for kids that are thrown in the corner to collect dust after a certain time frame..

So Sad as it is... People running around shops like chickens with heads cut off and fighting for the last item before it runs out...Ive seen it so many times...

I stay away from this... as much as possible.. then the Sales start in January ... same things for sale at less than half price...

Business Propaganda...

Remember Cabbage Patch Dolls?
We stood in line with a bunch of other knuckleheads, for a day. We struggled to get our hands on one, paid too much for it too!
Our daughter opened it on Christmas morning, tossed aside with the rest...Couldn't tell you where it is today!
I'm thinking that will be the case with the PS-3 also..Except, the technology will be obsolete, probably is already!

Hi Steve

I,ll go out and buy food for the holidays... thats about it.. I,ll go out and cut down our own tree.. and make all the good food ready..

But I will not go and wait in line for anything ....Ive made a few wooden things for the kids such as Cars, Boats and ...

Purchased Hand Knit things such as wool mitts, socks, sweaters from the elderly ladies and I,ll know that the money they ask for them will go into their everyday needs..

Christmas Church Service, A sleigh ride and visit the local farm where they have country animals and a Christmas Play.. cant forget the tradtional Christmas Sauna.. The aroma of ham in the oven. And the family being together...

Thats just me...

A Traditional Scandinavian Christmas

The kids have promised to try to get down. I love Thanks Giving and Mike loves Christmas. That means the decorations and all. We didn't grow up with a comercial Chrismas. If I had my way about it we would all go somewhere warm enough to camp and fish. The grandkids and I would love it. My mom might even love it.

This year it's all about friends. All the kids are spreading themselves from one side of Australia to the other so, we are meeting a bunch of friends in the High Country in Victoria(Southern Australia). No Power, No services or shops. Just a heap of us celebrating Christ's Birth.

Cheers
Paul

There are five kids in our family. My older sister lives in Ottawa, My older brother in Brockville. Both are divorced and remarried. My younger sister died of cancer in April, 2004. Her husband remarried a week ago. My father died in Aug, 2004. My mother has dementia, and is in a Nursing home. My youngest sister lives nearby and sent out an email to all members of the family-nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters, that she is hosting the family Christmas this year... no gifts, just get together and dinner, and hayride at the farm. So far, My wife, myself and our two kids are the only ones coming. The nieces and nephews are scattered from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. My brother and sister have the "other side of the family to go to, my sister's husband has his new wife and her family, the N&N's live too far away. So it will be a quiet Christmas... just my family, my youngest sister and her husband, and my mom. At 86 yrs old, she'll just sleep the day away.. getting up for dinner only......

So, now you know How I'll be spending Christmas......

Well I guess I'll take a little $hit here. I don't do the religion thing so for me Xmas is all about the kids. My only concern Xmas day is that the kids are all smiles for the day. I know most of the stuff get shuffled into the toy box but I tend to get them things that will hold their interest. Even if it's not necessarily what everyone thinks I should get them.
Next year will be a gas powered quad for the 5 year old, the 'lectric one is getting too slow for him.
The adults I don't worry about, as long as they are well fed and boozed up a little they are usually happy anyway.

I stopped in to Best Buy tonight to price a TV and computer for my new digs (still months away). I saw a row kids in tents next to the door. I asked one of them what he was waiting for. I figured it had to be concert tickets or something. The kid says "Play Station 3". I walked away thinking, "Holy sh**! You need to get a life".

Rich, my wife is Wiccan so her big day is Oct 31st, I am animist so everyday is a biggie(if I wake up)...my mother will be at my sisters in Houston, the wifes kids don't talk to us (for which I am thankful) so it will probably be the two of us, our two mutant chihuahuas and the two cats...eatin' way to much ham/turkey/sweet taters/pumpkin...we may well have a couple of our orphaned friends over also.....

What I'm asking Santa for this Christmas....

Getting the repair work finally finished on the house from a gas explosion.

One second of explosion; four months of self-repair. What a mess.

What Bill's getting from Santa this Christmas....

I asked him what he wanted for doing much of the repair work. He said a big screen TV (not to sound sexist but is that a guy thing?). Ordered through Amazon. Delivered right to the home.

Ebay is great for Christmas presents. Win early, don't wait in line. Delivered right to the home.

Gift certificates for FOOD (yep, FOOD) are useful. No waiting in line either.
