Disco's Dead??

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Sat Nov 18, 2006 6:10 pm

:( Dear Dismayed,

When did Disco Die? I had a good dose of it myself recently in preparing for an upcoming school talent show. With what I did, and I enlisted a male colleague of the same age/era to dance with me, the disco routine and music sent the kids in to stitches. We were the talk of the campus for the next few days. Then, lo and behold, I had some of the upper graders ask me where they could get some of that music. It was the beat that took hold of their feet and now with all the new dancing shows it's becoming popular to revive former dance steps. Also, trying to suppress this might cause even deeper, new found problems to surface and emerge....(if ya know what I mean, DisCo Queen) Be ready for a disco withdrawal, and it might not be too pretty with a soon to be 16 yr. old. :) I hope the expanding musical trend continues and that maybe in the future your kid might be playing something else like Cajun or Korean or Classic Be-bop the next time you walk in. Aren't kids a mystery at times?? ;) How about a Hawaiian kick, there's some great musicians out there and more on the International scene.

Hang in there, Dismayed for the music could be worse and filled with profanity and screeching way beyond what is suggested in the disco days.
All that funk & spunk, weren't those the days?? I hope the whole family can work this out....

TDN    :R

Maybe he thought it was OK from reading posts in this forum. I think I remember a thread a while back that spoke of leisure suits, that's enough to scar a young person and make them think its OK.

How about American Pie? I have to change the station every time it's played. Some D.J.'s even hate the song. ( Post # 900 ) Danny

Y'know, it kinda depends on *what* disco it was.

I listened to a lot of Marty Robbins in the 1970s ... but the kids around me were into Helen Reddy, ELO and Juice Newton (If I never hear "Cat's in the Cradle" again, it'll be way way way too soon) when they weren't listening to Rod Stewart, Mac Davis and the Bee Gees.

It's all good. None of those singers talked about "hos" or "bustin' caps on the cops".
There are worse things a kid can listen to than Lionel Richie or even The Commodores, and I suppose there can even be value in Eminem ("Mosh" had a point worth making). If he was listening to the Bee Gees, he'll probably grow out of disco (and just so y'know, there's a remake of "Lady Marmalade" out there that's "new" although it's not by Patti LaBelle) -- but if it was Donna Summer, well, it might be a long-term recovery.

Hang in there, guy. Probably the youngster's just goin' thru a phase. 8)

While waiting in a line at the store today a woman close to 30 couldn't keep her eyes off a kid with a huge Afro hair do. She said she had seen pictures but never one in real life as she isn't old enough. Does this and your son's liking for disco mean disco is coming back? OH NO!!. Like it was said before, its better than that rap (crap). :) Danny

Where is John Revolta and his polyester suit when you need him? I bought ELO's Greatest Hits recently to get their version of "Roll Over Beethoven" and was surprised  how much Disco they did but I still enjoy their music. Rap is Crap and it rimes. :) Danny

Steve...I asked some of the employees to burn some CD's to put on the system in the store during the day, stuff that wasn't objectionable and would be for our customer base....Man....some girl burned just about all the "oh woe is me" crap out of the 70's....after listening to it...the killer was the one about the guy in his taxi with the girl that become successful and he was a loser, and I refuse to name the song, as I can't remember it, fortunately...at any rate, now I have to deal with an employee that wonders why her CD isn't being played. I need a new employee! I stick in big band (Glen Miller) and all the ladies are singing and upbeat...Tom Jones is a hit with them also...gotta know yer customer base.... Doug
