Black Friday

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Tripmaker » Sat Nov 25, 2006 8:50 am

I woke up at ten till six. Having never experienced Black Friday first hand I figuired I should see what all the excitement is about. But I wanted to get broken in easy so I figured I'd go to Menard's. Women don't usually shop there, it's a guy's toy store. WRONG! Was I in for a surprise. First off finding a place to park was to say the least a challenge. They opened at six by and 6:15 the checkout lines extended all the way to the back of the store. People were pushing and shoving grabbing for what they thought was a great deal. The Christmas spirit was in full force. Women who on any other occasion would be gentle, courtious, and attractive turned into demons. Snarling at each other as though they were protecting their young. I haven't figured out yet what someone would do with 15 remote controlled trucks. Or why someone would stand in line for over an hour to buy two packages of batteries and a string of Christmas lights. Or why anyone would get up an such an ungodly hour to enter what can only be descrbed as a combat zone. I should have had my head examined. I did manage to get into the lumber department and much to my relief there was only one other guy in there looking at lumber. I went to the insulation area. There was nothing on sale that anyone that shops at Menard's would usually look for with the exception of some power mitre saws. I soon decided that even if I found something worth buying it was not worth standing on line to get it. I soon thereafter made my escape. And it was still dark outside, many more intellegent people were still sleeping.

Yeah, I was at Menards at 6:00 too. Was installing some floor tile in a rental on Thursday, and ran out of glue, and had to get it finished up Friday.

They had some mechanics gloves on sale, so I figured I would get the glue there. The line ran from the front of the building out to the road and back to the building.

People were actually very civil, not to much pushing or shoving going on. They really didn't seem to have any super deals, so I was surprised at the number of people there.

I also swung by Sears and bought some one handed clamps for 1/2 off, (never have enough of them).

I usually hit the sales on Black Friday, it's kind of fun, and there are some great deals from time to time. Since I get up pretty early anyways, it's no big deal to get up a little earlier.
