58,256 to be exact, that's the number of names engraved on the wall. I gotta tell you, it's a very effective memorial when you walk it's length, view all those names and realize that each and every one of them represents a fallen soldier.

They have a couple of books located up where I took the pictures and it tells you where different names are located on the wall. I couldn't go down to the wall (for reasons I don't want to talk about) but Tanya went down because she had a cousin that was on the wall.

Yes, which is why they shouldn't be used for someone's political statement. The, "I support our troops but not the war" statement is the biggest cop out.

and yes it would be.

Visit to the Wall

Postby Creamcracker » Fri Jul 13, 2007 5:46 am

Back in 1987 a group of 4 Vietnam Vets made their first visit to the Wall -- their journey both physically (from Ft. Wayne, IN) and emotionally was recorded by a TV station and was later the subject of a 30 minute documentary. At the time I was Chaplain at Howe Military School in northern Indiana and I was invited to travel with them as Chaplain/counselor. It was a very powerful few days and my first visit to the Wall. Howe Military School lost 8 former students during the Vietnam War and for me, looking at their names on the memorial - was a truly emotional experience. Now that I live in Virginia I've had the opportunity to revisit the Wall many times and it's always a moving experience. It's difficult to explain unless you've been there.

In 1969 I was 18, and I was already in the paper work for Paris Island , When a car wreck kept me out. But I know a couple on the wall. . It's the price that just HAS to be payed to keep us free. my thoughts anyway. I don't do it everyday...... But I thank EVERY Name on the Wall for without them , it wouldn't be the same here , of that I'm sure. :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

My Daddy was a disabled vet. He served in Korea and Vietnam (twice). I lost him two years ago and I sure miss him. But I appreciate it when any body shows respect to the soldiers. Because, to me you are showing respect to my daddy.

Dangit...Danny, you made me cry!!!

Wow:

Not one dead Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Shintoist or athiest in the whole bunch in that photo.

Just Christians.

I give up. This country is doomed.

Does ANYONE here understand the absurdity of this!?

I haven't made it to the wall yet, some day I will. Many friends on that wall. I volunteered to be drafted in Oct. 68, was in the army Nov 68 to Nov 70. Volunteered my way out of going to Nam. It's a long story, some day over a couple of beers I'll tell you all about it. Some times I'm sorry I never went, mostly I'm glam I didn't. I have tremendous respect for those that did.
