A different kind of woodworking

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I've got a B-25 Mitchell that I'd like to find time to put together. It's a control line model but I bought it because I like the plane. May never fly it but I'd like to build it none the less. Really cool plane.
Someday I'd like to build a large P-38 Lightning, at least 5' wing span...someday. 8)

Hold on to your hats..If you enjoy Barnstormers.. This is the plane model I have in the box yet. Also this is where I got the inspiration for this specific plane. ;)

Captain John Mohr who owns the Stearman is also a Commercial Airplane Pilot..One of the very best stunt pilots .

Here is his website..

Watch the video there.. it is awesome.. If you enjoy airplanes and heights. 8) 8)

If you ever get a chance to go watch his flying at an airshow you will most definitely get your moneys worth. His wife also has been taught by John.

Tony, we call tha "re-kitting". The most essential piece of RC gear is a trash bag. This I know from long experience. Quit building a few years ago. Eyes just aren't what they used to be. Still have a couple of kits laying around and my radio. Maybe someday. Sure do miss doing it.

Sam I am

Looks like youve rekindled the RC Plane Hobby here.. I started looking to see which pieces are lost... and to see if I can somehow remake the pieces..

I,ll let you know which they are and see what info I can find. Maybe the drawings are around someplace yet..

Sam, are those parts laser cut? The pieces fit really well. Nice job, and I like the motor. Show us when it is covered.

I have been using cheap styro gliders modified with small electric motors and the mini-servos for park flyers (see my web site) but I need something with some power. I want to go back to gas but electric is so convenient.

No laser cutting on the Uproar kit, Ed. It's old fashioned die cutting, but done very well. The parts practically fall out of the sheets! Fuselage sides, wing ribs, and bulkheads are the only die cut parts. The rest is sticks and sheets!

Finn, Most gas planes can be converted to electric power, but choosing a motor is not always easy. The new brushless motors have numbers that refer to motor dimensions and armature windings, but do not specify power. Some motor ads will have a chart of power output with different batteries and propellers. The size of battery (number of cells) makes a big difference in power output. Probably the best way to select a motor is to search the internet for articles about electric conversions. Model plane forums are a good source of information. Find a plane similar in size and type to yours and see what motor was used. Then you can buy a similar motor. You could also check advertisements for models similar to yours and see what motors are recommended. If you have about 100 watts per pound of model weight the performance will be good.

Great fun, used to build and fly them at a park that had a post about 1/2 way between the pilot and the airplane. We always had to climb higher than the post. One guy didn't........his control lines caught the top of the post, the plane whipped around, right at him and almost knocked his head off as it went by.

One guy even flew a toilet seat and 3 openended coffee cans. My plane flew just as well with one wing as it did with two. It all ended when my young son fueled it up when I wasn't home, hooked up the battery and spun the prop. It took off, right up his hand and arm. That time he took stiches in the hospital. No more control line flying after that.

Roly. I wonder if we could fly a teardrop, if the engine was big enough

I bought one of those new 2.4Ghz radios, a Spektrum DX7. I haven't used it yet but It seems to be future in R/C radios. It scans the frequency range when you turn it on and selects an unused frequency. No more impounding radios at the field and no more getting shot down by someone turning on theirs by accident.

My buddy builds and flys rc planes and builds them for other fliers as well.
Some of his planes have been in magazines...
He built one and I think it was called a BeeGee... It looked like a fat milk bottle. After seeing that, I'd say, "Yes Roly, a teardrop could fly."

Saw this Gee Bee at a museum. Unfortunately, I didn't take this pic I linked it from the museum's website. I'm at work so I don't have access to my pics.
