 Just what we need something else to distract drivers  My current carrier, cingular/at&t, is trying to force everyone to get internet on their phones  . I not only told them "H#LL NO!", I also told them I'm switching as soon as my contract is up. I understand that some people need this service but for the vast majority it's just another toy and a huge distraction behind the wheel. There should be device hooked to every car that explodes ipod's, cell phones and all others of that ilk if used while the car is in motion

I was thinking more along the lines of a signal jammer but your idea would work fine too.

There is nothing wrong with an iPod hooked up to a car. Our cars have an iPod to be hooked up, my wife's car will control it from the radio. It is much better than the alternative, driving around with their headphones on. It is illegal (and has been for as long as I can remember) but it is a common sight.

I love my iPod hooked up to my car 12,000 songs on it. It's all my music, I don't need satellite radio. Since I'm not too crazy about the iPod interface in my truck, I prefer to burn the mp3s to CD. Lemme see, 6disc mp3 changer times 250songs per disc that's (only) 1500 songs. I usually just leave them in there. By the time I get to the end, I will forget what was on in the beginning.
