Charging the AC in a 93 F-150

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Jiminsav » Thu Aug 02, 2007 1:58 pm

I had A/C problems in a 93 ford explorer..the Midis guys said it was black death..
after 2800 dollars for a whole new system, the new compressor blew it's charge out at the first traffic light I came too, oddly enough, on the side of the midis shop.
they recharged it, and while he was testing it with the engine revved up to 2400 RPMs, the compressor let loose again..
wanna know what it was?

the fan clutch on the radiator fan was bad and not sucking the air through the evaporator like it should..so I spent 2800 dollars to fix a 50 dollar part.

I don't know if you have already found out but r-12 is very expensive. It is usually more cost effective to change to r-134a. At least in Wisconsin if you take it to a shop and it is low on charge they have to find where the leak is and you can't go home with a partial charge. If it is found to have a leak you must fix it or suck the freon back out. Please resist any thought of putting anything else in the a/c system other than r-12 or r-134a, it isn't safe and could ruin some ones a/c machine, and thats some thing you don't want to have to pay for.
