Of course the neo-cons will try to twist this any way they can.

Too late, he's gone and donated his share of the loot to environmental orgs. More proof that he's nuts, eh? ;)

The only reason Global Warming is happening is because Mother Nature is a Democrat. :R

but on the other hand, God is a Republican, so there may be a hole in my theory.

I need to do more research on this. :thinking:

I'd say so. First off, I wouldn't say Mother Nature is a Democrat. Rather, the Democrats want to blame humans for something Mother Nature has been doing since the world began.

I don't know about God being a Republican, since even the Republicans aren't Republicans any more. I'm pretty sure He's an Independent.

neo cons

Postby RiffRaff » Sat Oct 13, 2007 2:59 pm

Lie about global warming because they are afraid of how much it'll cost to fix.

"Gore... does not even profess improving the human condition as his fundamental goal. Rather, his stated desire is to stop human activity that he sees as ruining what he calls the "ecosystem." Awarding the prize to Gore in 2007 is the equivalent of honoring the Luddites who tried to stop the beneficial technologies of Alfred Nobels's day."

I would think that stopping global warming would be exactly "improving the human condition".

Wait a minute, I have to make myself a babelfish for this thread:

peace = war
peace prize = neocon target
global warming = a world wide conspiracy to make me buy a toyota.
evidence = propaganda
proganda = truth
truth = fiction
radical = scientist
scientist = radio shock jock
libetarian = conservative
conservative = neocon
liberal = a person who disagrees with you.
terrorist = a person who disagrees with george bush

Ok, now this thread can continue...
:shock:

I suppose if we actually COULD stop it that would be a valid point. But the fact of the matter is, the earth has been warming up and cooling down since it was formed. It's a process we cannot change.

And to date, no one has yet addressed my question: why do we assume that the current temperature of the planet is the optimum? That it must remain constant from now on?

And if all the doomsayers predictions come true and the seas do rise a foot or two, why in the HELL are we so adamant about rebuilding New Orleans? :lol:

This is interesting.
You can flood New Orleans from the comfort of your own home. Just crank up the sea level rise.

MYTH: Global warming is just part of a natural cycle. The Arctic has warmed up in the past.

FACT: The global warming we are experiencing is not natural. People are causing it.

People are causing global warming by burning fossil fuels (like oil, coal and natural gas) and cutting down forests. Scientists have shown that these activities are pumping far more CO2 into the atmosphere than was ever released in hundreds of thousands of years. This buildup of CO2 is the biggest cause of global warming. Since 1895, scientists have known that CO2 and other greenhouse gases trap heat and warm the earth. As the warming has intensified over the past three decades, scientific scrutiny has increased along with it. Scientists have considered and ruled out other, natural explanations such as sunlight, volcanic eruptions and cosmic rays. (IPCC 2001)

Though natural amounts of CO2 have varied from 180 to 300 parts per million (ppm), today's CO2 levels are around 380 ppm. That's 25% more than the highest natural levels over the past 650,000 years. Increased CO2 levels have contributed to periods of higher average temperatures throughout that long record. (Boden, Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center)

As for previous Arctic warming, it is true that there were stretches of warm periods over the Arctic earlier in the 20th century. The limited records available for that time period indicate that the warmth did not affect as many areas or persist from year to year as much as the current warmth. But that episode, however warm it was, is not relevant to the issue at hand. Why? For one, a brief regional trend does not discount a longer global phenomenon.

We know that the planet has been warming over the past several decades and Arctic ice has been melting persistently. And unlike the earlier periods of Arctic warmth, there is no expectation that the current upward trend in Arctic temperatures will reverse; the rising concentrations of greenhouse gases will prevent that from happening.

Well if the seas do rise a bit and if it does make more trash at the beach from the washed out houses, then will that make the housing market better in middle America?

Who gets credit for inproving the housing issue inland- the same one who gets blamed for causing the loss on the beaches?

I wonder if he flew commercial or private jet? What size footprint does that leave in the sky?
What is worse=the energy and burned out incadessant 60watt bulb, or the reduced energy use of a 60watt floresant that has mercury in it?
Can we have our cake and eat it too?
Radio today says Ohio has best Corn crop since 1933, to make ethanol, to keep from buying foreign crude, to pay American farmers, to keep the money here.
For all we know warming is a GOOD thing.

Wether it is good or bad it is too late to unring the bell.
WE can't stop it, period. The Chinese market is so much bigger than ours, and they have a taste of the pie now. We will not be able to convince them to please not make pollution, they poison their own people with river water==they don't care about the rest of the world.
If they cared they would build cars with clean emissions, the paint they use would be lead free. We wouldn't be getting drugs made with drywall dust, and highway paint, thru the internet.

We are just along for the ride now. Do what makes you feel good, but if is not a WORLD changer, it doesn't matter
If we banned cars and had to ride horses-where would we put all the hay, and shovel all the manure to? You have to feed a horse EVERY day, wether you ride it or not. If you don't drive your car for a week it won't die, or make emissions. HMMMMM.
Boy this is rambling--good thing it's in off topic, I think I'm off that too.

Well, this will make the Apple haters hate Macs even more. Al Gore is on the board of directors at Apple Computer, and the Apple.com web site has this on it...

Any how, this is no place for this argument, and it's bound to go bad so I am not going to post to this thread anymore.

The 'sad' part is we were just a few bits of hanging Florida chad from having another Peace Prize winning president, but we wound up with . . . . . the exact opposite - The polar exact opposite . . . . a guy who starts wars which he hasn't the smarts to win for absolutely no valid reason

Oh well - Our descendants won't have to search far to find where America took it's major wrong turn . . . . . and the rest as they say is History - Just a little bit of scrap paper

passed again

Postby starleen2 » Sat Oct 13, 2007 8:35 pm

Passed over again – first for Pope (told I have to be catholic), then for the Peace prize?? Bummer. Hey, how come no mentions the Antarctic (south pole) If global warming will wipe out the artic regions then when the earth tilts – to change the seasons, so should the same thing happen for the south? Not much being said about this – Al Gore or anyone. Only the huge gaping ozone hole. I guess polar bears and seals make more of an impression than the penguins – God save the Penguins!
