Bizarre Weather

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby mandy » Sun Jun 08, 2008 12:14 am

Hey Wolf: The tornado that hit in Tucumcarri is the reason why I put this thread up. I have family all over there and believe me I was on the phone with them untill the tornado warning was over. I know how quick the weather changes out there. The scariest flash flood I have ever been in was on I-40 outside of Tucumcarri.

Take care

I have lived within 20 miles of where I live right now since 1984, and the weather is changing considerably.

Our last few winters have been really mild.

I am seeing small lizards here that I never saw before this far north. I see them all the time in Houston, but never here -- until the last few years.

Two years ago, we were on water restrictions, and last year we got a year's worth of rain by May.

Lot's of bad storms this spring.

Times they are a changin'.

How's this for pathetic irony, we've been a drought here in the Valley of the Sun for the past 10 years - and we've never had one water restriction! We also have more sunshine than any other state and barely have a solar panel to show for it. Both are just not encouraged. In fact, many H.O.A.'s forbid home solar installations. :?

A slight deviation from the thread - but not really from a possible solution stand point. Or maybe with soaring energy cost, just my frustration boiling over as we enter the most expensive time of year to cool our houses from the 115 degree heat.

We were the same way here. I don't know when we started the water restrictions but we all started jumping on the bandwagon. I know that lots of people are starting to put up solar panels up overhere but it is soooo expensive only a few can afford it. But things are looking up a solar panel factory has just moved in so maybe prices will go down for us in the SW.

Ditto here in the cookie-cutter neighborhoods north of Dallas.

And, people here LOVE lawns, and basically hate trees. It seems trees make shade, which kills lawns.

The water restrictions were because of how much people in the Dallas Burbs waste watering their lawns with poorly maintained sprinkler systems that run too often all year around. The city I live in finally started fining people if their systems were watering the lawn in the rain. A sprinkler head shooting straight out into the street can get you a warning, too -- after about six months.

Wolf wrote:I wish we had some of your rain! As far as wind? Here in this part of he state we have winds over 20 mph 5 days out of the week, and we are having 35 - 40 today with 55- 60 mph gusts. The norm.
Wife just got back from Amarillo taking our adopted senior collie to the vet, got great gas mileage going over, not so good coming back!

And even with all that wind it made it over the 100 degree mark again today. Too much of a good thing, all that rain, been watching it on the NOAA radar. Man has the middle been getting hit hard this year.

Here are two links to sites I use daily to keep an eye on things when the sky gets weird.

Accuweather radar

And talking about weird check this out too

Oh sure.... you had to bring up earthquakes too!!! Besides tornadoes, I live right on the San Madras fault. After the big one which is inevitable at some point, I will have to go out and get new GPS readings for all my geo-caches (my other hobby.....geocaching.com).
