Bugout teardrop?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

For us , having a properly prepared BOV means we can drive to a safe place ,with all the services we need...We've done this for many years and have much practice...before we had a BOV , we stayed in friends houses with them, usually a few days, Katrina changed all that and we were gone for 5 weeks...Reminding us of rule No.1 "after 3 days, guests, like fish , begin to stink..." How true!! With a BOV , this problem is eliminated

This thread got me thinking..... I don't need anything I don't have.

We have at least 2 weeks of food (shelves in the basement are pretty full).

We have a water distiller which we use anyway for drinking water. I can distill river water if needed.

I have a generator (honda eu2000) to run anything we really need.

If necessary, we can live in the tear (petcool).

We have two cars so will have at least 15-20 gallons of usable gas (I have a bulb siphon tube and plastic gas 'cans'.

I'll keep thinking, but here in New England, I think we're pretty much set except for boredom... guess I'd be doing a lot of reading..... or whatever, at least till I got tired....

I returned safe and sound too. My DW, Dbird, Ddog, Dcat and I spent 3 nights in our little A-liner at the Country Sunshine RV Park in Castleberry, AL (about half way between Mobile and Montgomery, off I-65. It was a challenge keeping all the animals from eating each other in such a small space. They were relatively behaved, which is all one can ask for in such a situation.

Thanks to Recreation USA, it only cost us $10/night even with all the critters - can't beat that price! It's not much of a campground, but it was clean and safe, and the staff was welcoming and friendly, which was all we were looking for.

Thank the Lord that we dodged another bullet. Sadly, it looks like the folks in the Galveston area weren't so lucky with Ike. It reminds me of how our area fared after Katrina. :(

We used ours for the IKE evac.
We slept in it for 2 nights, PERFECT escape vehicle.

Unfortunatley, we lost most of our town :(

Our plans were to leave her at my dads because of the flooding & debris then go get her if the house was gone.
Fortunatley 1/2 the house is still there, so we'll go get her later after clean-up and some repairs.

Miri, I sold my Camo TD just before the storm to a guy who wanted it for evac...just in time ... we used the Feather Sport... gives me time to build another TD...
Found out evac with a trailer is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than without...

Sorry about your house...... I hope the water went down before it made a mold issue. Better to rebuild than live with a serious mold issue.

GP---if I had to spend several days in rain I might like a standy too. Mike certainly would need one........... I guess they have their place.

A little update.
My town was devasted by Hurricane Ike.
50% homes destroyed 20% more damaged. Many are now homeless.
This is a picture of our local park. I bet they would be more comfortable in TD's ;) --That was our plan if we came back to find our home gone.
We were fortunate to only have damage, 6' of storm surge in our ground floor.
We bugged out with the TD (unfinished), and stayed in it for 2 days. It's safe and sound for the next emergency.

Interesting I was just thinking that your weekender two would make a great bug out trailer. Especially if a popup standup area was added to the design. Like now whos compact gt is it...

I like that tread,

Well one of the thoughts i have now that im planning the build of my teardrop is how i can be sustainable and for how many days. IMO a teardrop behind a 4x4 or behind a big onoff bike is an excelent bug out vehicle.
