But the Government will pay(our) millions for something that can be replaced by a goat ...

Yep, the government will also pay $20,000 for a $20 toilet seat...they seem to have a problem with decimals. Go figure.

Not very stealth with that gas engine wining away. But all in all, I think it'll be a great asset in mountainous terrian. Walt

That was the only statement here that made me sit back on my heels.

Almost like the gubment spending millions on a pen that could write under water, upside down, and in outer space when the russians just used a pencil.

Hmmm, a goat with a machine gun can't mow down the enemy like the robot can!!!

... and if you get stranded , you can EAT the goat...if the terminator goat breaks down , you just have millions of dollars of useless junk ... Not a problem for them , they didn't pay for it... :o
Robots eat gas (good for the Oil companies ) , Goats eat everything else , good for the endlessly growing landfills, cluttered with techno junk...
Makes one wonder how many really important problems could have been solved for "real people" with the money wasted on this techno toy... Mortgage crisis, energy crisis, health insurance crisis, etc. etc. etc.
Didn't Eisenhower warn us about the "military industrial complex"...and this unchecked spending...
Why don't they eliminate this waste and just cut our taxes...
Wonder how much the CEO of DARPA makes ...bet it's OBSCENE...

Feed a man a goat and he has food until it runs out or spoils. Teach a Robot to catch food and the troup has food until the robot runs outa batteries or fuel!

I agree that it's creepy but it's also amazing and I don't think a goat would be much good on Mars or....? I guess this is truly good grief!

After initially recoiling at the idea, I think it could be very practical.

It's great for the shock and awe value alone. Just imagine, a goat runs at an Afghan rebel, he shoots it and has lunch. Dress this thing up in a giant fly outfit, and with that buzzing sound, they'll be running for the hills. Mount a couple cameras and a flame thrower or something so it could defend itself, and have several of them lead our troops into battle. I'd run like the wind if I saw it coming at me.

Sure it's expensive to research new technology, but it may have non-military applications too, and may eventually save lives. Imagine totally autonomous walking (and stair climbing) rescue vehicles for evacuating people from burning buildings, forest fires, stranded mountain climbers, wounded troops under fire, etc. without risking any rescuer's lives.

The giant Star Wars walker idea is cool too. 8)

Yes , and once they're capable of independent thought, they'll quickly figure out they don't need us around mucking things up... :o Machine "race" seems a logical evolutionary possibility...
