I know it won't make you feel any better, but it's the same the world over. In the last general election in the UK only 52% of the electorate voted and the party that won got in on less than 25% of the electorate!
52%! Wow, that's pretty good compared to many of the elections in the USA. Many of our "good" turnouts are much less than that. And then you get down to local elections, . . . . Well, lets just say that the "Good Ole Boy" network is alive and well. I can't imagine that the candidates at a national level that are being voted in haven't created their OWN GOB network. Its ALL about who you know and who you don't.
Am I just a little pessimistic about the upcoming elections? Yes. Of course, it could be argued that if I really wanted to have more of a voice in setting policy, I could work my way up thru the existing system to make it heard, but then that means that I would be putting my stamp of approval on the GOB network - which I am not ready to do. <sigh> What's a girl to do? <facetious question - response not necessary!> Yes, in a perfect world, everything would be perfect, so I guess we'll just have to settle for what we've got. Do I have any better ideas? No. That's why I haven't "rocked the boat." I'm not convinced that the change proposed is really much better.
OK. Rant is done for now. Back to the regularly scheduled program. . . . . .
Andrea.
