The morning of Black Friday at Wal-Mart I picked up a Garmin Nuvi 200 for $97.00 as a favor to "Santa". Before I submitted to my wife Terra and gave it to her to wrap and place under the Christmas tree, my son and I took it out for a test run (this being our first GPS, and me being a tech geek supreme, I couldn't wait).
He and I had fun with all the neat bells and whistles. Just watching the little car icon drive down the road while it tells you your current speed and which way to go is neat. It's a James Bond gadget that any tech-lover appreciates, and dang it, it's so useful!!!
I programmed all the nearby Harbor Freights and many other parts and tool sources into it at home, all ready to travel to at the push of a button. And what's more reassuring than being able to at the end of your trip, just push the "Go Home" button? It really makes you feel like you've got a few less things to worry about.
Only glitch on our test run was when we plotted to a Chick-Fil-A in front of our Home Depot (good breakfast biscuits), it got really confused when I took a short cut through some back streets and the parking lot of the HD. It didn't have those in its memory.
And it seems to take the long way around obviously shorter routes sometimes. All in all though, useful and fun.
Glad to know it can be upgraded like Dakotamouse said. I didn't know.
Happy travels and peaceful trails!
