Piracy? or are we becoming a world of wimps?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Doug, you're right we've all become a bunch of wimps. I was looking thru those pics and read this caption on one of them, "The crew of a Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship watched as the couple were taken hostage by Somali pirates but were ordered not to open fire, the Ministry of Defence said Friday" How frustrating is that?

Thats the kind of thinking that lets the Pirates think there ahead. Its almost like a job for them.

How can a big row boat hundreds of miles out in the ocean possibly take over a Container Ship??

If your going to Pay People to be Pirates...Your gonna get a lot of Pirates.

Hell! I wanna be a Pirate!

Send me 3.5 million dollars..or I'll...I'll post dirty words that could possibly offend some portions of the population that could have people who may have that or a similar lifestyle !

we are/have become a world of political correctness. I'm getting tired of this whole (being forced to be a) wimp....

quote: A council has warned staff against using the phrase 'political correctness' at work because it might offend people.

A booklet outlining 'equality' policy to council workers claims using the term at work can be damaging and even linked it to the Ku Klux Klan.

Council worker paid £91,000 to fix the lights

The bizarre publication also orders staff not to use words like 'policeman', 'fireman' and 'chairman', suggesting they are classic examples of 'exclusionary language.'

While the word 'ethnic' is also outlawed for being not 'appropriately descriptive.'

Len, read the Wired article I linked to. It is a business, and those rowboats have big twin outboards. And, it seems that the shippers and insurance companies (and nations) find it cheaper to pay the ransoms than to fight the pirates.

We're not wimps, just businessmen making business decisions.

Yes, a very good article, illuminates the situation somewhat...And, I played the pirate game that follows the article for about 45 minutes - addicting!

Seems to me that if they were smart businessmen, they'd find a way to cut out the 1M+ ransoms and delays added to their trip price. Someone, somewhere is paying the price for it, and I'd imagine that the cargo ship owners just pass it on to the consumers. I don't recall that there have been any big battles with pirates, seems that they just give up. When the flies are annoying you...get a fly swatter. Sorry, I just think that they are expendable. Doug

Postby Alfred » Sat Dec 05, 2009 4:07 pm

The new scourge of campgrounds across America!

Pirate Teardroppers! Arrggh, matey!

(...The tiny, swifter, more maneuverable teardrop pirates quickly surround the large honkin' Winnebago RV's...Armed only with Dutch Ovens and vintage camping gear...)
