50 years ago, Mattel Fanner 45s. They shot real plastic bullets. They are exactly the kind of toy you can't have today because they had small parts and shot hard pieces of plastic. I always wanted to be a cowboy after getting those. Turned into a teacher instead.

Probably the most memorable Christmas gift was a Lionel train set. It was the first of many train sets. I see the equivelant sets now and get sticker shock.

Back in the mid-seventies I got an Aurora/AFX slot car set. Still have a track set up down in the basement for whenever I get the urge to run them.

Big Jim Camper (for my Barbies)

Image

I already had the Barbie camper but wanted the Big Jim version because of all the cool accessories...especially the plastic molded campfire!

I never had - nor wanted - Barbie Dream House. All my Barbies lived in my two campers. I had never thought about this until replying to this thread. It's interesting how all these years later that I still feel the same way.

Hi all this is going to be long but you will love it  I was a young boy 12(long time ago) live in Omaha Tx My dad would take me and my cousin to go look at all the x-mass lights in Mt Pleasant. When we got home Sainta would already be there and gone. Our home was really steep roof and there would be toys and fruit strung all over the yard. Well I was getting a honda 70 motor cycle. My mom was going to show me how to ride it then she poped the clutch she ran up the stepps the only thing hurt was her pride  . Well we baired my father 5 yrs ago today and to day we are bairing my mom but it helps typeing this, (so the guy or gal that started this page I want to thank you). I wish all of you a Marry X-MASS and god bless you all. It has helped me the last few days reading this sight.

I remember them but I thought they were called Fanner 50's.

I don't remember if it was part of a set or what but there was a little derringer that shot the same kind of bullets.

It mounted on a belt buckle, when you pushed your gut out the derringer would spring out and shoot.

The only Christmas gift I remember getting wasn't much, but has an interesting story behind it.

I am the youngest of 5 kids. By the time I was 4, there were only 3 of us left at home; a brother 8 years older and a sister 7 years older. My brother and sister decided they should each sneak a peek at one of their gifts ahead of time. Of course, they had to let me sneak a peek too! The present I opened was an easel chalkboard. I was underwhelmed. However, my brother and sister told me I had to act happy and surprised at this gift when I opened it for real. I evidently didn't understand the game plan very well, as when my parents came home that evening I ran into their arms, thanking them profusely for the awesome chalkboard.

My brother and sister were busted!
:D
God Bless

1969 Ford Mustang. My dad was disabled and I was in college. Being a Ford mechanic, he realized that we needed another used car to replace our Fairlane. He also realized that I would look cooler in a Mustang.

I believe you are right. It was a Fanner Fifty and I had the gut derringer as well. You might have got the drop on me but when you tried to take my gun, I would push out my gut and shoot your _ _ _!

All that talk about guns and bullets...I just remembered (other than my bike) I was given a toy gun "Wyatt Earp Buntline Special" the barrel was unusually long for a hand gun and it had bullets that you could load into the chamber...they didn't fir but to me they looked pretty real. I've since looked for that gun online but have never been able to find one....and a question.....where did all that stuff go! I never remember throwing anything out but now that you'bve started talking about gifts from years ago I've been thinking, and wondering about where they went....where's my "Pop apart Mr. Pastry" will now be a lingering question for consideration into old age.......

Phillip, was it the one with the black grips...
Image
...or was it the one with the white grips...
Image
...or since you're in the UK, it may have been the red handled model...
Image
...of course it may well have been this one....
