How do you answer Now?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Just this week, Marks and Spencer (historically, the preferred provider of underwear to all British gentlemen and women) announced 'shapewear'* for men:

* Yes I did wash out my mouth after using a word like 'shapewear', for which language I apologise.

Booty Pop

Postby djayh » Thu Dec 31, 2009 8:05 am

Dennis was just talking about this ad yesterday AM.....OK we haven't been keeping up......He also is asking the same question as Starleen ask 1st....but my problem is along the lines of hating gravity and the need to roll things upward to make them fit into the push ups that CD remembers as being the rage. "Gravity stay the "HE**" away from me" And I didn't realize the Belly Pop existed????Maybe that is what Dennis has been wearing. :o Queenie Jeanne

There aint nothing new under the sun. FromWikipedia, on George IV:
George IV is remembered largely for his extravagant lifestyle that contributed to the fashions of the British Regency. By 1797 his weight had reached 17 stone 7 pounds (111 kg or 245 lb), and by 1824 his corset was made for a waist of 50 inches (127 cm).

Regarding fashion, from wikipedia

At least as early as 1533, the diminutive Italian wife of Henry II, King of France, Queen Catherine de' Medici, commissioned a cobbler to fashion her a pair of heels, both for fashion, and to suggest greater height. They were an adaptation of chopines and pattens (elevated wooden soles with both heel and toe raised, not unlike modern platform shoes or clogs and sabots), intended to protect the feet of the wearer from dirt and mud; but unlike chopines, the heel was higher than the toe and the "platform" was made to bend in the middle with the foot. That raised shoes had already been worn as a fashion statement in Italy, at least, is suggested by sumptuary laws in Venice that banned the wearing of chopine-style platform shoes as early as the 1430s.
