california tire inflation

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby jeep_bluetj » Tue Jan 19, 2010 1:32 pm

California ALREADY mandates that if you hire an electrician that they can only install CFL bulbs..

(It's a title-something requirement to get a building permit approved)

We're doomed. We're all doomed. California can sit and quack about tire pressures, car colors, etc. And it'll do nothing but feed the beast.

Yep, over regulations, kinda like micromanagement from micro minds.

Gus, I agree wholeheartedly. However, for some reason that I cannot possibly understand, STUPID runs for office, and STUPID gets elected!

Whats next - mandatory tire air rotation - or filling your tires with nitrogen?

My son just did a remodel to his home, where he had a 2 story livingroom space, and put a ceiling in and created a game room upstairs. The building inspector allowed him to use incandescent lighting in the new game room because the rest of the house was cfl already. 5 year old house.

You can't rotate tire air - it must be replaced, every two years at most. Any longer than that and it loses its compressibility.

And of course it's important to be sure you're replacing with air to the manufacturer's specification - putting southern air into northern tires, say, will start tire rot faster than you can wink. Putting western hemisphere air in eastern hemisphere tires means the tires will want to rotate the wrong way and your vehicle will only run properly in reverse.

There is a balance between too much and too little government. We are suffering because of eight+ years of too little government oversight of the financial industry. Lessons learned from the great depression were forgotten and greedy bankers drove this country to its knees.
Unfortunately laws are often necessary to just tell people that something is not okay i.e. discrimination, or texting while driving. I for one am quite happy to use CFL's and waiting for the day when LEDs and eventually plasma bulbs replace incandescent lights inexpensively.
The law in California concerning putting air in tires seems a bit extreme but it probably sounded good at the time to some politicians. Keeping your tire inflated should be just plain common sense, but then again how uncommon is common sense.

Like shadow catcher said common sense is sometimes uncommon. Personally I prefer education with a touch of reward or punishment for compliance but that's just me. Where I live the whole province has 1.2 million people , Canada has just over 35 million people, less than the one state of California. From that plus what I,ve seen of the freeways on TV the traffic must be insane. So I guess the authorities want to do whatever they can to make the road safer and reduce pollution. One thing I do know, stuff that Cali starts seems to enact eventually spreads. Like wearing helmets on motorcycles, and CFL bulbs. Here in Manitoba in a couple of years it will be illegal to sell incandescent bulbs. And I quit riding motorcycles on the street when we passed a helmet law, I don,t question the safety aspect and almost always wore one but really don't like to be forced into anything.

I personally don't feel the threat of underinflated tires rises to the level of needing a law passed.

Calif air pressure

Postby crankshaft » Fri Jan 22, 2010 2:16 pm

I'm going to beat the rush and send in my application to Sacramento for the position of Chief Air Pressure Inspector.. Of course I expect to be accepted and given a large corner office , a large staff and my very own silver plated Chief Tire pressure InspectorBadge and a My very own Pressure gauge.'' Nop doubt They will give me a state car with red lights and siren so I can chase down all of those violators..Of course there will probably have to a tax increase to pay for cleaner air. But Load knows the job is reward enough.

I have two questions.. Who will inspect the inspectors cars and equipment?

and ...will all of the HOT air over Sacramento affect the true readings of those high priced gauges?
