I'm amazed that what counts as 'congestion' can be less than a mile long and with an average speed of 10-20mph. But then America is big. Over here, to be a congestion record it would have to be more than 10 miles long or under 1-2mph.

# 3 The Beltway just plain sucks!!! Lived in Manassas for a while and the exit to 66 would line up over a mile most days unless of course you shot up to the front and wiggled in in front of someone not paying attention!

# 30 The infamous Parkway... another road that just generally sucks. Someone has to explain to me the logic of zipping thru a tunnel at 60 and slamming your brakes on 40 yards from the end so you're doing 30 when you come out the chute! Thereby backing up the entire road behind you!!!

# 69 Dayton is a treat! Inlaws right off of I 75 and everytime we go I manage to hit rush hour.



Been on more than a few of the others but these are 3 of my favorites!!

I drive #4 every day. The worst traffic jam is .92 miles long according to the report. Bear in mind the traffic is still start and stop for over 30 miles from Buda, TX thru Austin to Georgetown, TX during rush-hour. My commute averages 1-1/2 hrs. to go 27 miles if there are no wrecks.

I've driven at least a dozen of these as well. I'd say the most frustrating I've driven would be be Baton Rouge and Virginia Beach.

You can support any conclusion you want with statistics depending on how you slant the data. What do they mean with "congested"? Driving less than 80 mph?

The Ronald Reagan Freeway (118) doesn't go anywhere near Oxnard. Period, end of discussion! The Stearns offramp mentioned is in Simi Valley (where I live) and is 35 miles or more from Oxnard! My wife drives this route every day during rush hour and rarely is her speed less than the legal limit and usually considerably faster (don't tell Barney Fife though).

I can't see how you can have a real bottlneck in Lousiville (or some of the other places listed) based upon the following from Wikipedia:

The city's estimated population as of 2008 was 713,877 (consolidated; balance total is 557,224), with a population of 1,244,696 in the Louisville metropolitan area.

Here are the populations of the major counties in So. Cal. I've excluded Ventura County (where I live) and San Diego County as there are geographic barriers that separate them from the counties listed below. The counties below are part of one virtually contiguous urban sprawl and one city blends in to the next with out apparent borders or distinctions.

LA County: 9,862,049 residents
Orange County: 2,846,293
Riverside County: 1,545,387
San Bernadino County: 1,709,434

Now that's some traffic!!!!!

Here the common way to measure driving distance is in hours not miles. Just yesterday my brother asked me how long it would take to get from his home in Huntington Beach to Burbank. My answer: "Anywhere from 90 minutes to you can't get there from here/there".

Here in So. Cal. we're exceptionally proud of our backed up freeways and complete lack of a functional public transportation system. NO ONE is going to do better (or worse) than us!!!! The best we can do at times is crawl on a freeway that has 14 lanes (seven in each direction!). Beat that!!!

California is GREAT!!!!!! We have some of the highest tax rates in the country, probably the highest population of illegal immigrants of any state in the union, and I just heard on the radio (not that I believe everyting I hear or read) that 34% of the the countries welfare recipients are here!!

No other state can top these "statistics".

I'd move somewhere else but I rarely go south to the the aforementioned areas, live in a much more rural county just north of this mess, and like wearing shorts, a tee shirt, and sandals year round (ok, when it rains I do put on shoes) and sometimes even a sweatshirt but I can't remember the last time I put on a jacket.
