I sometimes go to the local USMC recruiter to get kids awaiting their turn on the "yellow footprints" to help me with projects. After a few days with me, they are thinking a bit "differently", ha. They are not permitted to report to boot camp until they can pass the "initial strenght test". I've been surprised and disappointed on how many of them require "remedial training" before they can report to boot camp.
I recently saw an obese kid at a local Panda Express (mostly fried food but they haven't figured out how to fry the hot and sour soup!). He was wearing an "US Army" shirt of some sort. I inquired about the shirt and he explained he had just enlisted. I suggested that in the USMC not only would he have a problem but his commanding officer would have a problem ! He was a bit baffled by this comment. When I explained that obesity was simply not accepted or tolerated in the Marines he shared his expectation that the Army would solve his problems with overeating. I'm glad (for his sake and his CO's sake) he joined the Army and not the Marines.
Sad!

The opinions in this post are my own. My comments are directed to those that might like an alternative approach to those already espoused. There is the right way,the wrong way,the USMC way, your way, my way, and the highway.
