Doesn't ring any bells.

The thing about these and other popular beverages is that one would never guess they are so high in calories and fat. You could eat modest portions of healthy foods, and still get "fat" because you are taking in too many calories and too much fat, on top of your healthy food intake.

BTW, Prem, I've used real maple syrup in hot tea many times, but never thought about using it when I make my iced tea.

Just got this in a blurb re: encouraging Harry Reid to bring the re-authorization of the child nutrition act (to make school lunches better) to the floor of the Senate:

."This week Senator Harry Reid met with three retired generals including former Nevada adjutant general about the future of military readiness. to discuss a growing problem of young Americans who are ready and willing to serve in the United States Armed forces but are physically unable to serve because they are obese. Obesity is the number one medical reason that adults who are willing to serve in the military are unable to. Senator Reid and the generals discussed the report “Too Fat to Fight,â€

US Army Recruits

Postby eamarquardt » Tue Jul 27, 2010 12:23 am

I sometimes go to the local USMC recruiter to get kids awaiting their turn on the "yellow footprints" to help me with projects. After a few days with me, they are thinking a bit "differently", ha. They are not permitted to report to boot camp until they can pass the "initial strenght test". I've been surprised and disappointed on how many of them require "remedial training" before they can report to boot camp.

I recently saw an obese kid at a local Panda Express (mostly fried food but they haven't figured out how to fry the hot and sour soup!). He was wearing an "US Army" shirt of some sort. I inquired about the shirt and he explained he had just enlisted. I suggested that in the USMC not only would he have a problem but his commanding officer would have a problem ! He was a bit baffled by this comment. When I explained that obesity was simply not accepted or tolerated in the Marines he shared his expectation that the Army would solve his problems with overeating. I'm glad (for his sake and his CO's sake) he joined the Army and not the Marines.

Sad!

The opinions in this post are my own. My comments are directed to those that might like an alternative approach to those already espoused. There is the right way,the wrong way,the USMC way, your way, my way, and the highway.
