Back in 1950, it was tents, then truck-camper, then a 5th wheel, first a class C and then a wonderful class A motorhome, that was our home full-timing on the road for 8 years. Age prevented access to the big rig at last, so the cardboard TD profile was nailed to the garage wall. "What's that", she says, and I told her "I'm selling the motorhome and building a woody teardrop trailer, isn't that great?" No, not great. She asked if I thought she would ever sleep in that thing? If not, I told her that I guess I would go camping alone. The first time we tried it out, she was sold on our little teardrop and just loved meeting all of the neat folks at the campgrounds and gatherings. So, spousal-resistance can be overcome, if it is approached correctly, I think. It worked for me, and I'll remember it forever. I hope you have to same results as I did.

This is way I called by build thread "Wife not Sold Yet". Because when you people sucked me in and took over my life my wife was not sold on the idea of sleeping in a coffin. We tent camped for a few years when we first got together then that turned into hotels. I had gotten rid of all but a few pieces of camping equipment and then Tnttt.

When I started to build the tear she would not come near it. Once the walls were up I made her lay down in it so she would know it was not a coffin, it is a cool little house. Still not sold. Then I would show her pics of all the cool people on this site and all the fun they were having at tear gatherings. It started to get to her. All those people could not be wrong.

One day after I had painted the tear and it was pretty well done I had it sitting in our front yard. We live in a small town so many passers by saw it and commented to Mary how lucky we were to have a neat little teardrop. Then she was sold. Asking when we were going to camp in it. Now every chance she gets she out in it plastering the walls with pages of Rolling Stone magazine. Now when I do anything to the tear I ask her what she thinks about it . She feels apart of it now . She has not slept in it as of this writing but this camping season we will be teardroppers. :D

I too asked the future husband if he wanted to go camping with me after dating a few months. I already had a nice tent and camping gear. He's camped with me a lot but now has decided he would rather stay home and take care of the dog than camp. He says I take too much crap...he's probably right. He will be the first one to my camper to help me get it safely hooked up. I let him back it up if he's home when I get back from camping - that makes him useful. And besides, we fight if he tries to tell me how to back it up. ;)

I enjoy my 'girl' time when I'm camping. And he enjoys listening to my camping stories when I get back. It works for us!

My wife went camping for her first time for our first anniversary, canoe camping is what we have always done, the first time in the TD should be this summer (13 years later), she prefers overnighting in the rough, two years ago we did an awesome 3 day canoe trip, but she hated no shower and an outhouse for that long. I plan on making the TD able to make up for that, or camping at campgrounds.
