Saving our wetlands is one thing when you are talking about undeveloped marshland, but they have gone overboard at times. I have read where a homeowner couldn't use part of his lot because it was a little damp and was declared a "wetland". That is crossing over to the rediculous side of things.

He is not a yankee, he is from Virginia

Postby Guy » Wed Sep 28, 2005 11:47 am

Hey Madjack, Joe is from virginia. None of us yankees have trashed Louisiana, its people, or their current plight. Please do not tar us with that brush.

Please don't thnk I was trashing New Orleans. I was referring to the fact that it was founded in it's present location many years ago, when the then current mode of transporation make it inconvient to place a town miles from the trade center, namely the MS River. Like most towns along large rivers and railroad lines of the 1800s, it just evolved, not planned. If I was going to trash anyone, it would be the officials that didn't respond the plight of the people, which resulted in more deaths than were necessary.

Well, you might ask for a context before you go flying off the handle Madjack. My comment refers to the political system in LA that even a dead blind man can see makes a dog's hind leg look straight as a pool que.

And I'm afraid the Richard Edward reference is lost on me...

...we have the best politicians money can buy...a well known fact. If you wish to refer to those facts do so without using a broad brush and be more specific. Until I receive an apology for what I consider an extreme insult I will stand by the Richard Edward comment. If the Richard Edward comment goes over your head(understandable) then find a trucker to explain it to you or think(if possible) of the nick for Richard and the short for Edward said together quickly............

Which reminds me that this board has a capability which I should have taken advantage of earlier - the offending post has been edited.

So, it looks like everyone made up...let's all play nice guys.

Madjack, you're a trip sometimes. I hope I get to camp with you in the future. I know I'll get with the Florida bunch in the next year and hope to make the Edisto Beach meet next summer.

I know I read where $15 Million went for a crosswalk to a casino and $2.5 Million went for a fountain on the the edge of the lake.

When catching a snipit of the Brown Congressional hearings I thought one of the funnest exchanges from the fiasco was the following:

Brown: "I could not find the Louisiana State Emergency Director"
Senator: " Why Not? Where was the Louisiana State Emergency Director?"
Brown: "Gone"
Senator: "Gone where exactly?"
Brown exclaiming in exasperation: "Sir, he was indicted!"

I laughed my &^%$ off. It was so spontaneous... caught everyone by surprise.

Before you guys knock Brown too hard, He managed 3 hurricane responses prior to this one with out any problems. It is not all his fault. Washington is certainly looking for a scape goat and he is readily convenient.

Political Crony - yes... But how many high level government jobs are not?

Ever read a whose who of our Ambassadors?

Some facts please

Postby Guy » Wed Sep 28, 2005 5:40 pm

Before I deal with the continued posting of unsubstantiated BS, I implore all to read some fact(defined as something which can be substantiated and not just political rumors of the left/right/or center) about Mr. Brown, his testimony and the documents that are already part of the record.

Today, while testifying under oath, Mike Brown claimed that Louisiana Gov. Blanco’s August 27th request to the President (http://www.gov.state.la.us/Press_Release_detail.asp?id=976 or a federal emergency declaration excluded Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquerines parishes. Here’s Brown today (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/27/national/nationalspecial/27text-brown.html?pagewanted=all) under questioning by Rep. Steve Buyer:

BUYER: So I’d like to know why did the president’s federal emergency assistance declaration of August 27th not include the parishes of Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines?

BROWN: …[I]f a governor does not request a particular county or a particular parish, that’s not included in the request.

BUYER: All right.

Orleans Parish is New Orleans. I was listening to my colleague, Mr. Jefferson’s, questions about when they talked about, you know, they asked for this assistance for three days and then president responded the very next day, not the day that it was made — the request — but the governor of Louisiana actually excluded New Orleans from the president’s federal emergency assistance declaration?

BROWN: Again, Congressman, we looked at the request. The governors make the request by…

BUYER: Let me ask this. Since you went through the exercise in Pam, was that not shocking to you that the governor would excluded New Orleans from the declaration?

BROWN: Yes.

BUYER: When that request came in excluding these three parishes, did you question it?

BROWN: We questioned it. But I made the decision that we were going to go ahead and move assets in regardless because we have the ability to add those parishes…

In fact, Blanco requested the President to declare a disaster in “all the southeastern parishes” (http://www.gov.state.la.us/Press_Release_detail.asp?id=976),which includes Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines (http://www.rootsweb.com/~laterreb/slamap.htm). See the request for yourself at http://www.gov.state.la.us/Press_Release_detail.asp?id=976.

The only document that leaves out the most damages parishes in Louisiana is the FEMA document which is Pres. Bush's order. This ccan be found on FEMA's own website http://www.fema.gov/news/eventcounties.fema?id=4786
and not some left wing hate group as opposed to the unsubstantiated right wing hate garbage Tony has been posting.

We should also be very happy we are paying Brown his full salary so we can learn from “his views on his experience with Katrina.” http://www.nola.com/newsflash/weather/index.ssf?/base/news-19/1127777341304740.xml&storylist=hurricane

Hey Madjack I'm glad your back. It seams that you and I are in agreement with what to do with N.O.

My take...bulldoze most of the flooded areas and backfill to the height of the present levies and require all buildings to be built on 3' high piers or on fill to the same height, at least then, when the 500 yr "PERFECT STORM" comes and floods the city again, the flood water will have somewhere to go besides into the "bowl" portion of the city
madjack

I said the same thing about N.O. after Katrina, and you told me it will be too costly. However with lets spend another billion here and there Bush it will be done and our grand children will be paying for it.
