Ok back on topic....Slow what about Veal? younger cow sure not as much weight but veal does pay more by the pound

What about something like Bison? It is much leaner, and is a much more efficient animal in terms of the feed-to-meat ratio. The specialty meats might give a bit of a niche market. Around here, in northern Indiana, we pay $7-8 / lb for ground bison, and more for steaks or roasts. I'm not an expert, but it just seems like everybody has beef, and the laws of supply and demand say that will keep the price low.

Slow, I have a friend that has 85 head and will pull in heifers that are in labor for the first time or young. when he looses one it could be $500 to $800 for that animal. Young dead ones cost you and the heifers already have $200 or more invested. You cannot sell a dead heifer and even if you do butcher, if it died while giving birth the meat is ruined. It is very costly. For those people working 8 to 5 having never been on a farm or raising animals for their consumption have no idea...
