I didn't even know this board had an ignore feature. I have been sitting on my hands all week to keep from responding to someone who was being a total D bag.
I just added my first name to the list. It kinda made me :D :)

Here's a warning, though: If someone gets :x and quotes or copies what that "first name" wrote into their reply, you'll still end up seeing it. There's only so much the forum software can do. Resolving to ignore certain comments or tirades seems to be the best answer to it all; but, the friends & foes feature helps one get over the frustration or anger "hump"; and, it's easy to add and subtract names there.

I'm kinda with the "ignore" them crowd. It takes 2 to have a fight. Many times, given time, someones stupid comment will be seen by all and after a while, it just becomes a testimony as to how out of touch or ignorant that person is.

I've tried to document many of my builds, some prior to the build journal section. I've found the best thing to do is to never ask a question in that forum. Ask your questions in the other areas like construction, frames, general disc. etc... In your build thread it should be..."this is what I'm doing". It cuts out a lot of the BS discussion on your build unless you want that.

A build journal should reflect what you are doing and the progress you are making towards your final goal. Positive comments are always appreciated in that forum as it's a reflection on all the efforts and thought that you have put into your build. It is also a great inspiration and bit of encouragement to continue on your project when you get some good feedback from others. It's not an area for thoughtless comments or back and forth with another member.

There is nothing more discouraging than getting a bunch of crap on something you've done in your build journal from someone that may or may not have actually built one. Someone may or may not like what you are doing, but it's your creation and a culmination of your ideas and yours alone. No one is building by proxy, so don't let anyone razz you on your build. They don't have to drag it around or camp in it...only you!

As an admin...yes it is a bit of a challenge right now and I'll admit, I'm probably not the best admin as I'm pretty busy with a business and a build. I kinda count on people getting along and respecting others, as it should be in life. Everyone really needs to use their heads and think about what they wrote prior to hitting the enter key. Ask yourself..."is this something that I would like to hear on one of my threads, how would I feel if someone said this to me?" or "is this a stupid thing to say?"

This forum has evolved and changed over the years and will continue to do so with as many members as we have. Like a springtime storm...problems typically are short lived and will blow themselves out given time. Doug

So I got to wondering,, can you highjack a thread about highjacking a thread?

The highjacks that get me the most are the build threads. I am in awe of anyone who builds their own trailer. I mean wether I like it or not it they are doing something I don't have the skill or gumption to even try. That deserves respect

Doug expressed my main concern perfectly. Most threads, if they get hijacked, just eventually die out when they get so far off track and the majority of time it's not a big deal. If the subject is worth talking about again another thread will pop up eventually. But our build journals are something else. Sometimes when friends or family members ask me about my build I refer them to my build journal. I too love the positive comments and the encouragement, but I wouldn't want someone who is looking to read about my build have to wade through pages of people bantering back and forth with each other about something unrelated to my build, and even more especially if it is nasty, bickering type of banter. That was the only reason I asked my original question.

Becky, If someone posts something too far off topic in your build thread, just use the alert button on that post and ask the moderators to delete it. That will keep your thread cleaned up. For that matter, use that feature on any thread you create that goes too far off track.

Always appreciate your humor, Bob.
Do you have any jokes about 'Internet Addiction Disorder'? Not to change the subject, but I suspect that serious IAD may be lurking here and humor is often the best remedy. ;)
