Happy Turkey Day to all!

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

George, here is a simple answer.

George, here is a simple answer.

We Americans, and Canadians too!, often call Thanksgiving Day, Turkey Day.
The simple reason is because we traditionally eat Turkey on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving dates back to the times when the United States AND Canada were British colonies.

Those Brits were not to great at farming or domestic hunting so our original peoples helped them get through the hard times by teaching them about crops which could grow here and the best manner to hunt North American animals. Those Brits were great at shutting up and learning fast. We now celebrate those traits of the original British settlers of our Countries (USA and Canada).

So George, go eat some bird and think of most of this community being thankful to the Brits.
Regards,

Guy

Guy said it best...it's not a PC thing it's about the fact that the traditional meal served on this day is TURKEY.........
...so to alll an asundry...HAPPY TURKEY DAY

p.s. the turkeys don't really sem to mind but then the domestic variety is not really very smart

Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving. Try not to eat and drink too much. Course if you do drink too much "Stay off the roads!" Particularly around here, the roads are really $hitty today and will prolly be worse tonite.
Got about 4" of the white stuff since yesterday, supposed to be near 60 Monday![/i]

George,
Turkey was easy pickins' back then, mainly due to it's size... 20-30 lbs.
If Ben Franklin would've had his way, we wouldn't be saying Happy
Turkey Day.... at least not at Thanksgiving.
He wanted to make the turkey our national bird...
"Houston, The Turkey has landed..."

Happy Thanksgiving Everone!.

And remember, the Pilgrims got off at Plymouth Rock because the the guys with the boats were short on beer for the trip back.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

PS Know who was one of the most inportant people on most any expadition? The brewer. They knew the water wasn't safe, they just didn't know that boiling the water to make beer made it safe to drink. So thank a brewer today.

TALL TALES

Postby Guy » Thu Nov 24, 2005 10:19 pm

Dear Boodro,

At least you are not lying about getting home safe and sound 8)

Me I drove up into the Catskill Mountains today, to celebrate Thanksgiving with one of the Vets I just helped get benefits for. The scary ride in the ice (been living in Southern California too long) was well worth it. In twenty six years as a lawyer I never thought I would get to have such appreciative clients and their families.

If any of you out there are retired lawyers or still practicing, and looking for the best pro bono work of your life, I suggest you represent disabled veterans. Remember it can only be pro bono since the law in America is that a disabled vet cannot pay a lawyer more than ten dollars, unless his case is in the Court of Appeals. The hook is you can do it for free and you get to fight the government.

So stay safe, sleep well, and fart softly.
Regards,

Guy

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I had a GRRREAT day! The food was fabulous and it was great to be with my girlfriend's family. I fixed the dressing (conventionally) and a couple of cobblers in the dutch ovens. It was enjoyed by all. I hope each and every one of you despite yours or our differences had a blessed Thanksgiving Day with family and or friends.

Anybody up for a good prank next Turkey day???? How about this,

Get 4 or 5 small cornish hens , cook until done , Then stuff cornish hens into cooked turkey just before serving said turkey, at serving time remove cornish hens to a very surprised table crowd & pronounce that the small ones are the best & most tender to eat!! :o   See how many guests forget that turkeys lay eggs !!

I might just have to try this next year!
