MJ--

I appreciate what you did. I saw the thread titled "Politics and Religion" and chose to not even look at it. Just seemed like too hot a topic for me. If I don't like a thread I just won't even bother with it. Kinda like if I don't like a TV show or movie or product. They don't get my attention.

Thx, Rob

Can we still talk about sex if the thread title is clearly labeled?

I never get any, so all I can do is talk about it.

Just to make myself clear...I did not pull those two posts because of ANYTHING that ANYONE posted but rather because the overall tone of both were going bad and making the board and the various posters look to be unfriendly. I did not do this alone, but rather after concerned consultation with other admsins
I urge ALL members to recognize that we as group have a public face that goes beyond just the active memership and to "think twice and cut once" when it come to posting, have some consideration for the other guys feelings and thoughts and if you know something is going to ruffle feathers...don't post it. That will keep this a friendly place, if we all exercise a little self-restraint...the alternative is to do away with the Off Topic section altogether

MJ did it right. But now it seems to be transferring to this thread . :(
IS THERE NO END IN SIGHT????
I like the emoticons as they seem to help imply the posters feelings that words can not. Just my 2 sense worth, which isn't much!

An analogy:

The Muslims are burning embassies because of a Danish cartoon. Now, I would bet the farm that 99% of us here would defend that newspaper's right to publish it.

Just asking some here to draw their own conclusions from this. Seems that free speech is okay when it's theirs, but not others.

Hi Ira

Spot on, of those people that champion free speach I bet a few of those very same people here would be outraged if their religion were lampooned.

Its knowing where free speech and good taste cross over thats the hard part.

Before I went to bed I saw nothing wrong with either threads, replies to that point.

I thought it had been decided that any discussion was OK as long as it remained civil? now its that undefineable quality "tone"

Tone isnt really clear cut enough, we can all see abuse, tone gives to much leeway and is hard to define.

George, I think my point has been made. I agree with your line of thinking. If you had read Ira's post you would have seen the request I made to him. Unfortunately as long as our backsides point to the ground, at some time we will contradict someone else's line of thinking. If you would prefer to see individuals ostracised on this board, sure go for it with the one line censorship. I, for one, think I understand why our Admin's take the stance they do. That would be consideration of the Group as a whole not as individuals.

May I, at this point in time, say that I think we both understand that we agree to disagree on this one.
Cheers
Paul

Diversity in any group is to be applauded. Thanks everyone for not being like everyone else.... Even our board troll came out to play, it seems Madjack drew him out by doing his job, and doing it very well I might add. Thanks MJ.
The discourse had somewhat run amuck on a couple of threads, which has happened before, and will no doubt happen again. I'm really glad we have MJ here to put things back on track. Everyone who was involved in the original two threads, please continue to be yourselves, and share your thoughts and ideas.

Just my opinion

I wrote a post that may have irritated some, but if you read the post you will note that I abused no other poster on this forum. Besides not being my style, I know from other in person, public debates...that when one turns to abusing other debaters, bystanders start tuning you out !

I did make several numbered points...and you will notice that I announced each point as " my opinion"..

Spirited debate sharpens the mind..but resorting to name calling only cheapens the caller's argument...

If the offensive, name calling portions were simply deleted, then any truly offensive poster will have most of his post redacted..

...Actually, I believe Rob had the best answer...he saw the thread clearly labeled " Religion and politics"...he's not interested in discussing those subjects...so he just chose not to click onto the subject..

Seems quite elementary to me !
