Todays shooting was a sad and horrible thing. My prayers go out to all those families who are devastated by it, and so close to Christmas.

How the hell this guy has a gun and kills all those children amazes me!

It is a sad fact that sometimes people qualify to own a gun, when in reality they are not mentally stable, or for other reasons should not be able to own one.
Requirements for just owning a gun, much less getting a special additional permit to carry one on your person are growing stricter all the time, as they should, to get rid of loopholes and prevent more unqualified people slipping through the cracks.
Many gun related killings are committed by people who were not qualified/allowed to own a gun, but were not stopped by something silly like a law. (Gang members...etc.)

The idea of banning all guns comes up a lot, but one must remember/realize that the problems caused by illegal gun use are not committed by law abiding citizens, they are committed by criminals, who don't heed the law.
Banning all guns will not stop criminals from getting/having guns.
Finding a better way to control criminal activity might reduce illegal gun use.

Seriously, they should ban guns all together as all you hear about is mass murders and stupid killings all over the news.

That would be one way to deal with the problem.
Is it realistic? No.

People used to drive drunk and kill people with their cars, and got just a slap on the wrist.
Over time the laws got tougher, and those who use a car to kill someone else, intentionally or not face very harsh consequences. But banning ownership of cars across the board because some people use them to kill was not, and is still not a practical solution.
It would be just another emotionally charged knee jerk reaction.
Prosecuting people who commit crimes with the implement of their choice is the only realistic option available.

If someone wants to hurt or kill another person or persons, and there were no guns because they had all been banned, there are plenty of other "things" that can be used.

Waiting for "someday" will leave you on your deathbed wondering why you didn't just rearrange your priorities and enjoy the time you had, instead of waiting for a "better" time to come along...

I knew when I checked this site that this thread would be going again. What happened today was horrible. It should never happen. But unfortunately it will. Maybe not a school, but somewhere that is crowded with people who have a feeling they are safe. To my knowledge there has never been a mass shooting in a Police station.
All the news stations are running wild with the what ifs and why did this happen. Politicians will over react and pass some more laws as that is there way of fixing things. There are plenty of laws to prevent what happened today. Those laws keep most citizens on the right track. But there will always be a very small number of people who will disregard the laws of nature and our land. These are the ones that no law will deter.
We too need to not over react. It is not known if this sick man had a legal gun. Did he have a CC permit ? We don't know if a staff person with a CC permit on site could have stopped this before it went as far as it did. Time will answer all those questions. So let us not over react.

I've tried to be fair about this issue.
That's not what was said at all, what you chose to ignore was this warning on the last go around. However, if that's what you wish. It can be arranged. Your choice.

Kevin....

Why not just delete the thread? It seems that it's one sided anyways and my kid reads it and asks me why guns have anything to do with camping.

There's nothing one sided about this thread, it's open to all opinions including yours. Some of the things you've said and the attitude you presented to fellow members of this forum is where the problem lies.
