What do you listen to???

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

After 15 years of jazz San Diego-style, I want to weigh in for fusion and every form of jazz ever played. :M Throw in new age and world beat. I also love my folk albums from the 60's and 70's. (I still have vinyl - lots and lots of folk, blues, rock) I like my volume low. In the truck, I can get NPR, but not at home. I also like plenty of listening to the grand silence.

Van Halen, Rachmaninov, Muddy Waters, Abba, Elton John, Beethoven, Michael Buble, Gary Hoey, Santana, Def Leppard, Aaron Copland, Mussorgsky, Green Day, Zydeco (like Beausoleil), Clapton, Rimsky Korsakov (I like the Russians), Beatles, Beach Boys, Moody Blues, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Pink, Glen Miller, AC/DC, Sammy Hagar, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, Fleetwood Mac, Satriani, Paganini, and even some Herb Alpert as well as the New Christy Minstel Singers (blame Mom and Dad).

Well that's a start, I'm kind of, umm, all over the map.

OH wow!! Yes, Micheal Buble... ahhh!!!

And if someone gets to strummin' around the campfire, I can sing some gospel or old country.

I'm glad I'm not going to turn some people off at the campground with my radio.... just depends on how loud I can go.

And Jim, no I'm not weird... but you haven't seen me singing and banging the steering wheel ! hahaha

Sherrie how does a girl from Alabama know of the Blend? They were a local band [to me here in Maine] that did not be very well known outside the state. [that is if we are talking of the same band] :D

What do I listen to?.. my list is rather an ecclectic mix as many of you. I probably have 800 cd's [all bought] I guess the majority of it would be classified as rock. but there is some classical... blues.. folk.. and more recently stuff that I do not know what to call.

Cowboy Junkies. Tom Waits, David Bromberg, John Prine, Solas, Richard Thompson.

The new T Bone Burnett is incredible as is the new Cream.

Radio varies between oldies and jazz. I occasionally listen to NPR when Thistle and Shamrock is on, but more often than not I forget to listen. Judging from my CD collection, I mostly listen to Loreena McKennitt, Cherish the Ladies and of course, Jimmy Buffett. I also have a fairly ecclectic collection of Celtic music and surf music. I used to listen a LOT to Joni Mitchell and Jethro Tull but I find I don't listen to them as much any more. Still, I occasionally drag them out for old time's sake.

Jewel, have you used empty plastic soda bottles with the lids on to play drums on the steering wheel doing 70 down the interstate..actually, I only use one bottle, like the drummer from Def Leppard. 8)

I listen to a fairly wide range of music. Mostly, country (new, but especially classics), bulegrass or oldies (I'm talking 50s, early 60s...after that, not so "oldie" as far as I'm concerned). I also like smooth jazz and easy listening music. I like some alternative and even New Age stuff. For instance, I love to listen to Leonard Cohen, Enya, Yanni and Kitaro (whom I consider to be the Japanese Yanni).

As to what I DON'T like... that's hard core jazz, metal, most new pop, hip-hop, rap, salsa (I hear enough of those last three blaring from the new houses built across the street). What I really hate is the new wave of super-bass car setups. There's one somewhere around here that has my house windows rattling before it gets on the block. This happens a lot while driving around here. I sometimes have my own music drowned out by the blast through my closed windows. Someone started trying to pass a law against that, but so far, no success.

A new neighbor across the street will turn his on in the car in the driveway with the windows closed while mowing the yard. I can't hear any music, just feel the vibrations inside with my windows shut (and rattling). It does not good to suggest that they don't need that much volume. And, they do this with little kids in the car, who will probably need hearing aids by the time they are 20.

Sorry to turn this thread into a rant against noise polution. Back to the regularly scheculed thread topic.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.

You can very easily eliminate those people. Just play your Yanni outside for a few days. Leonard Cohen....... Billy Joel does a Leonard Cohen song called "Light as a Breeze." It is one of the finest songs I have ever heard.

Aw c'mon! Do you REALLY think Yanni can overcome that ground-thumping base? The only thing I've ever found that works is frequent visits from the cops if they play it late at night. It's a lot more difficult to make a case for "Disturbing the peace" during the daytime.
