My 3-month drinking binge--almost over?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

As a City Worker, I say go for it. In this current economic time, public employment should be a good thing. It beats the heck out of a job as a Realtor! Retirement programs are generally really good at Civil Service jobs. I don't have to pay Social Security and should recieve about 95% of my final year's salary when I turn 55. I could retire at 55 and get that check for the rest of my life. Then again, I'm 30 so it all sounds depressing. Good Luck!

I said the DOT to keep it simple, but it's actually better than that in some ways:

I would be working for and paid by a huge IT placement company called Computer Aid Inc. -- www.compaid.com -- and I would be PLACED with the DOT. If I get the job, the good thing is I wouldn't really have a boss, and I can set my own 40-hour week.

If I DON'T get the job, the guy at CompAid would still push for other placment for me. They have major contracts with mega-size companies, and also do long-distance/relocation placement for the right people. I have no desire or financial means to relocate right now, but if the right thing came up, who knows.

We'll see. I don't want to get my hopes up, because it's against my pessimistic, bitter, Jewish nature.
Here we go again!

I'm the opposite, my 40hour week is compressed into 3 and 4 day weeks.

Hey Ira , just something to check on . I work for the state here in Ohio. ( public schools) . I spent 25 years in the private sector & paid S.S like everyone else, when I started for the state I don't pay S.S , the issue is the IRS says when I retire I don't get ALL my S.S I paid in . I will loose a portion of it . I think its called the windfall act or something like that . I'm sure you can find that info out , it can be quite a hit on some people. Now with that said , if you have paid into S.S more than 30 years ,you won't loose anything. Hopefully its not an issue for you, Good luck!

Wonder if you'd get a break on road tolls???...
Just hope they don't do a check and realize that you cheated them out, not paying for those tolls.

Bad news:

I got the job.

The guy at Comp-Aid called and said I knocked their socks off. My problem?

They're PC-based, not Mac, and I haven't touched a PC in 15 years. They said they would buy me any layout program I want to create a standard from now on, but when I mentioned Mac, one guy said that might cause a problem with their IT department. There shouldn't be any problem networking a Mac in a PC environment, right? Especially with the new Macs that run Windows?

You have no idea how tempted I was to bring that up at the interview, but I'm not THAT stupid.
