Bizarre Weather

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Well, that was a nothing... 3 minutes of rain, and it was all over. Then I went outside and cooked steaks on the grill.

Last nights storm was worse than that.

It freakin' rained again, and all the water we took out of the basement came back!
:x

I found the problem and someone is coming out tonight to give me a hand. The tiling around the house just can't accommodate all the water we got the last two days......
12 hours of standing ankle deep in cold water, isn't my idea of a fun day at the beach!

I'm glad it didn't hit you as hard as it hit us, Mike.

Ouch! And I thought I had fun today. All I did was install a new kitchen
faucet, acidently break the cold water line, discover that it is part of the shut off valve. Go to lowes find out that they are not standardized go back shut off the water to the hole house. Then pull the valve and back to lowes. Put the replacement in and wonder why it leaks with the water still shut off! :? Call friend for help find 1 of the problems and discover the new valve is bad just after lowes closes. Went to wallmart and don't find what I need. Grab a can of pipe dope and some super sealer tape. Doesn't help. Thow a bucket under the sink turned the water back on and called it a day. I will have to take tommorow off to fix this up.
Still a better day than you by a long shot

I guess I spoke too soon. Several miles to the south of us they got slammed pretty hard.

Deadly storms tear across the state
Heavy winds and rain leave hundreds of thousands without power; at least 5 are killed in Michigan

P.S. Sorry to hear about the water Tim...

:o Wow guys! Looks bad for you Northerners and us. I think before the drought we had rains like this. Just had a few really crazy ones.

And heads up again. OK, KS and MO are covered in rain again today. :worship:

Well, I think I'm on the downside of it. I was up until 11pm last night installing a sump pump. It seems to be keeping up with all the rain we got last night.

Now all I have to do is get the standing water out of the basement. :?
It's a shame about the people who died the last few days. But it underscores the craziness of the storms were seeing this year. They are shutting done roads left and right for fear of them washing out.

Well back to my damp basement..........

If you have not seen National Geographic's documentary called "Six Degrees Could Change the World," you should rent it. It is an eye opener. The bizarre weather we are having lately could be just an appetizer before a bad meal to come in the future.

Food for thought (pun intended) ;)

I really wonder how 'global waming' is standing here, seeing as we have had one of the longest winters here in years.
I believe it is there, I just don't believe it is aas bad of a problem as what some people want us to believe, and I believe that it is a nuturally occuring thing.
In the 70's there was rumors spread about global cooling. 30 years, and we are all going to die of the exact opposite.

 8) We had to get rid of our hair spray to save the world from global cooling Dianne. Seriously, how wonderful to be so successful. 8) That darn hair spray would have held a TD together.

Lake Delton in Wisconsin Dells is gone. It was a man made lake and the dam that holds it together broke. 245+ acres (because it sucked in houses as it drained) is a big mud pit.
A lake in Jefferson county Wisconsin drained as well.
And a pond in Jefferson county drained.

In the 1970s, there was a book in the popular press, a few articles in popular magazines, and a small amount of scientific speculation based on the recently discovered glacial cycles and the recent slight cooling trend from air pollution blocking the sunlight. There were no daily headlines. There was no avalanche of scientific articles. There were no United Nations treaties or commissions. No G8 summits on the dangers and possible solutions. No institutional pronouncements. You could find broader "consensus" on a coming alien invasion.

Today, you have a widespread scientific consensus, supported by national academies and all the major scientific institutions, solidly behind the warning that the temperature is rising, anthropogenic CO2 is the primary cause, and it will worsen unless we reduce emissions.

(From grist.org)

The "cooling" theory was held by a small group of people. Global warming science today is more than just a handful of theorists tossing out ideas.

Global warming is not the same as local weather. And, one of the things mentioned in that National Geographic special, Six Degrees, is that with even a few degrees of Global Warming, weather patterns would likely change dramatically, with more extremes of rain and drought, hard winters and hot summers, and more unpredictable and unusual weather.

I don't want to start an argument here on Global Warming -- I just recommend people think about it more, and put aside preconceived notions.

I used to be a GW skeptic. I wrote GW science off as a bunch of tree-hugger chicken littles running around trying to get my full-sized pickup outlawed.

I changed my mind once the scientific evidence piled up enough.

Anyway, I still suggest people check out "Six Degrees." It was made by National Geographic, not Al Gore. ;)
