I made my usual Monday evening after work trip to the supermarket. You would have thought that it was either the end of the world or that a category 5 hurricane was bearing down on us. The parking lot was full. Cars were 3 and 4 deep at the gas pumps. Out of stock on water, potted meat of any type. The shelves were going bare and baskets were full. I picked up the couple of routine items, paid and got the hell out of that zoo.

I always support the idea that people should prepare for a storm. But seriously--it doesn't even look like we will get a moderate blow and minimal rain at that. Talk about a population overreacting. Momma nature will probably deliver a tree to my noggin, but I'm not expecting much out of Dolly here in CC.

(I'm really just pissed cause I couldn't buy any tuna!)

Ok, so I am SUPER late to this thread, but oh the excitement that happened here in San Antonio on the day Dolly touched land, you would have thought she landed in SA, with the continous coverage by KSAT 12. Hope all is good for everyone in the Coastal area, we have been thinking about you Tonyj.

This part of the Coastal bend weathered the storm without a problem. Some areas got some badly needed rain, although some of the grain farmers would probably have been better off with none. I poured 5 inches out of the rain gauge in George West this weekend, so I'll be back on the tractor shredding in a couple of weeks.

The valley got pounded where the hurricane went through, so areas got over 12 inches of rain. And lots of power down. When I was going north to George West on Saturday, there was a line of power company trucks heading south. I am always amazed at how well coordinated and how hard those power guys work. They're amazing!

The real downside for me--already fighting swarms of big, mean mosquitos!!!! I hate 'em!!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.
