Grrrrrr, RATS!

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby dmb90260 » Mon Oct 13, 2008 9:56 am

Maybe you need to turn to some natural rat killers. May dogs take part in an event where we dig 9"x9" tunnels , insert liners, c0ver them up and put rats at the end. The dogs (small terriers and dachshunds) have to find the rats in a certain time and attempt to get them for a specified time. These rats are protected during the tests but on practice day some have been know to expire.

You can see some of the dogs that do this at my website http://duffyscavern.org/dogges_of_the_earthe.htm

I just returned from working one this weekend and will be back in for three more in the next 5 weeks. It is a good time of the year to for my dogs.

Sometimes I supply the rats I get from a local snake store. One day I was sneaking them back to the laundry room when the bottom of the cage fell out. The rats fell out, the dogs heard the racket. I got three and they got three after eating a hole in the dry wall trying to get one of them.
:o

No complaints from me, that is their job.

Clubs that do this are always looking for practice sites. Maybe you can offer your place.

Keep them over there CD, we haven't seen an increase in my part of the Metroplex.

I have two Jack Russells, I bet they would love to "chase" your rats, however, I wouldn't want to clean up the mess!

I suspect he means Frisco TX

Mark

You're probably right. I just saw "Frisco" and immediately cringed - I lived there long enough to know better than to call it that. But whatever Texans call their towns is their business.

I do wish people would quit calling the state "Cali" though. I find that so ridiculously ostentatious that it's downright disturbing.

Besides, effryvon knows it's Kal-ee-FOR-nee-yuh!

As for shooting BB guns within city limits, the law usually forbids discharge of firearms, which air guns are not. Sometimes the laws include air guns, but often they are overlooked.

In any case, they have to catch me first...

a couple of businesses downtown had mice and a neighbor's cat has caught several. There is a new construction project that tore up a couple of acres so we think it sent them scurrying.
What I notice here is spiders. all kinds and sizes. more this year than I have ever seen.

Frisco was born of western spirit as a tiny watering hole and whistle stop, first along the Shawnee Trail and then along the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad. It is from this railroad that "Frisco" got her name, during the days of massive cattle drives in the 1800's.

You are correct. Texas law states that it is against the law to discharge firearms within the corporate limits of a municipality with a population over 100,000. Of course, many cities add their own city ordinances that add BB guns and air rifles. But a city violation is only a "C" misdemeanor (fine only) compaired to the state's "A" misdemeanor (fine and/or jail). It's rarely enforced unless someone complains.

Not a huge problem in Corpus (we locals do call it Corpus and sometimes Corpus Christi, but never Christi), but a big problem at my barn in George West.

I us a bb/pellet rifles/guns to try to dispatch the rats and field mice in my barn (outside the city limits of George West, TX), but those suckers are fast and don't like to sit still while I draw down on them. I have gotten a few, but I also have a bb dent in the tear from a ricochet!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

I believe I have seen your offices, Mark. Is it the one in the formerly Albertson's shopping center, near Chuck's?

If so, how do dogs react to your waiting room full of cats?

Oh, and can I borrow one of those cats?
