The tongue jack is made from a piece on an old R/C transmitter antenna. The caster can be slid up and down, and will stay where you put it.

Looks great!

Could the hatch props be replaced with the same R/C antenna? Find two similar sections, the telescoping sections should have enough friction to hold the hatch open just like gas struts.

The sink was a great idea. I found some of those little plugs used to cover the screw holes on power points work well at my scale. The tow forces in 1/32 are minute, but brass makes for more reliable mechanisms like suspension.

1/12th scale is a good choice as it is also the number one doll house scale, so there are lots of 'house' things like cups, cutlery, plates chairs etc. If it were me, my next project would be converting that Chevy to R/C :D

Mine is still moving along slowly. I think take two of the electronics has it about right.

The next project will be a camp site diorama with the 57 and tear parked, and things like a picnic table, fire ring, trees, etc. around it.

Awsome... I'll be watching for your diorama too! :D

I don't know how automated the equipment is that some of you use, but next time you cut out the sides for your model teardrop, why not cut a hundred sides? Order a couple hundred wheels. Get however many stick pieces it takes for the trailer frame X 100 etc.

... And Sell It!

A model teardrop in a box to be painted and glued would be a perfect holiday gift. Tis the season too and I bet you those 100 would be gobbled up by members on this forum alone... well 99, cause I'm first in line.

I'd like to laser-cut some stuff out of 3/32" birch modeling ply in 1/10th scale... where the frick can I do that or how much does a machine like that cost?

Seriously. I need that kind of precision. I doesn't need to be laser, though; just need to cut detail without all the breakout.

I wonder if you could just contract that out with a fabricating business or the like? I've seen some incredible equipment on a lot of the customization shows like Orange County Chopper, etc. and it's amazingly easy once something is in the computer. I bet they could do bulk on the whole order with the proper blueprint.

That's a darn good idea! I still have the tip of the antenna left. It's about the right diameter. I might do it!

Thanks for all the nice compliments, all. I appreciate them!

Buyer Beware!!

I actually saw an e-bay listing where someone built one like these cute little things and was selling it as a full size tear. It never said that it was/wasn't a scale model. It was getting very high bids too. I reported it and I suppose someone who saw it right before me did also because when I went back to the listing it was removed.

Thanks all, for the nice compliments on my models. I have begun work on a campground diorama to display the 1/12th scale 57 Chevy and teardrop. Here is a photo of the mockup of the layout.
Image
It will be built on a piece of 1" thick blue foam insulation about 32" x 20".
I made some accessories for it. Here is a lawn chair made of copper wire and paper. That's a quarter for size comparison. It was tedious work, but came out well, I think.
Image
This 8 foot picnic table is made of treated wood ripped down on my table saw to make scale lumber.
Image
Here's my favorite piece, a fire ring and grill made of aluminum flashing and balsa sticks. The firewood is twigs blackened with a torch, and the fire is a tiny flickering battery powered LED candle light recessed into the foam so just the flame sticks out. It looks real in the dark!
Image
The man is a 1/12 scale resin figure from eBay in the dollhouse section.
More to come as I git 'er done!

Nice work Sam I Am!

Just in case anyone is interested in having one made for their very own. This person, Dean makes these scale models, and sells for a very reasonable price at the rallys. He will even make a replica model of your trailer from a photo. His grandson is holding the tray.
