ooh, and I've just been informed that he has only "just begun" with his e-bay purchases and cast iron collection.

I think I'll just blame Dean! Yeah, that's it!!!!!

Garage Sale $$

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:16 am

8) Pricing stuff is ez for me, cuz I want it to go.....we had a Good Saturday Garage Sale today (just a bit under $600). The items that sell the most/best are furniture like twin beds, dressers, chest of drawers, power tools, and sporting equipt. For the larger items I price them close to what a person might find at a second hand store. Hunting/camping items go very quickly...I had my 17 ft. Coleman marine canoe out as "bait", along with the paddles, life jackets, and car carrier and sold it for $100 for everything. I had three people in line to buy it! Took a deposit and phone numbers in case the 1st person didn't come back...but they did. Another item that went was a wooden dining room table and 6 chairs for $125. These are items that are too heavy to keep moving around, too bulky to continue to store, and aren't getting used enough.

Little items go quickly, especially household things. I use the quarter system....25/50/75/$1.00...since it is easier to count quarters in a hurry.
If I have duplicates of the item, haven't used it in three or more years, etc.
I've decided I can part with it. For nicer items of clothing I put a dollar or two on them, but otherwise I give people a grocery bag and tell them to stuff as much as they can in it for 50 cents.

My twin helped out and whenever I can get him to put out sporting good items, they zip out immediately. Fishing nets, 4 beat up ice chests, decoys,
and hunting vests always sell. Those items I display prominently outside the garage for they tend to bring in the male and well as female buyers.
Also, consider if your area has any shops that take items on consignment, cuz that is a better place to sell jewelry, quality clothing, records (vinyl), etc. Those places are open for more than just a yard sale weekend.

My Mom and I will be out again tomorrow, but we've found the second day is generally about $100-$200 since most of the BIG ticket items went today. I'm just glad to get rid of stuff since the cost of taking it to the dump is $$$ and recyling it to a new owner is better environmentally.

Happy Sales to you...until we meet again....
