arguing with fools

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby purplepickup » Tue Oct 04, 2005 9:37 pm

Thanks MadJack! I've drafted a post similar to yours a couple of times but didn't post it. I think it means a lot more coming from a well respected member such as yourself.

I do try to skip the argumentative, name calling threads but sometimes I don't know what they are until after I've read them. The personal attacks leave a really bad taste in my mouth and I've been here a while and feel like I know a little bit about the players. I wonder what newcomers think.

I'm sure no one is suggesting censorship....just common decency and respect for one another....here and in real life.

Wow!!! I didn't know this was going on....I agree with Madjack...the whole thing comes down to the fact that there are a whole lot of ways to do things...and everyone has had their own experience and results....who's to say who is right? If it works for you...it works for you...it's up to the recipient to sort out the details, decide who's opinion he wants to go with...I try to always post "in my experience" or "just my opinion"...I'm no expert...I don't manufacture tears, boats, or hotrods for a living...It's always just what I found, I think I can turn out a quality boat or a tear..but that is just my opinion, others may not like what I did....I learn most of my education from the school of hard knocks...I just don't post my bonehead moves....And I think Gage is right....he and I had a talk in the Redwoods about reading ones posts...Gage...I'm guilty of it....I don't read things like I should at times...you pointed that out to me...I learned....For me...I get really excited about a discussion and sometimes jump in before it has sunk in....None of it is malicious...just me....If you have been to any tear gathering...there's no 2 tears that are alike...that's what makes us special....and there is no right or wrong way....if it works for you it works......Just my humble unsolicited opinion....Doug

And Doug, don't you think it's really a shame we have to or have the feeling we have to qualify our comments on this forum with "IMHO" or "just my opinion" or "just the way I did it" etc., etc., etc. It sometimes feels as if one has to walk on his/her tippy toes to keep from stepping on someone elses........................just because of the arguments. I, for one, have backed off from participating in anything even closely resembling an argumentative thread. It's just not worth it.
Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

madjack wrote:...I have noticed a disturbing trend of late in many threads of folks arguing with fools. As someone else said...I won't name names, you can put those shoes on yourself IF you feel it fits.
If you are the one argung wiith the fool, then you are setting yourself up for massive frustration and if you are the fool, then you are giving yourself a falsely inflated ego and showing yourself for what you are.

This trend causes undue strife and lowers the overall quality of the board and I find THAT upsetting. If someones posts upset you so much that you must just gotta say something, then I suggest you bite the hell outta your tongue first, before responding.

The bottom line is that a posteers question is not being properly answered without having to read thru a bunch of foolish argument, gives a new reader a bad impression and gives a black eye to this board and teardrops in general. Please folks, give thought to what you are posting before arguing with these fools and if you want to make it personal.....use the PM button so that the rest of us do not have to participate

thank you, thank you very much

p.s and yes I include myself on one side or the other

This thread sure is humbling:  :BE
I resemble Madjack's comments,
I apologize to all of you for recently allowing myself to participate in one of these arguments, As for the fellow I had the disagreement with I offer an apology and a:shake hands:
Thank You, Madjack for the smack in the head, sometimes I'm just too hard headed. :hammer:

Another side bar to this topic....as a group of tear builders, owners, wanna be's, or new-be's....I dunno about you...but dad always spoke about "first impressions" you never get a second chance at one....If we want to develop this hobby, lifestyle etc....lets just try to put our best foot forward... an inviting forum with information and positive feedback will only encourage it's growth....I know, it sounds corny...but hey...it's a fact...."Just my experience" Doug

Hey, the computer has allowed us to get ticked off at neighbors all across the country. I know my neighbors don't like the trailers or my other hobbies, If you are truly THIN skinned my avatar pisses you off, if you are truly THICK skinned nothing gets to you! (I lean to the thick) so in between is reality and at the gatherings we all have a teardrop to show, a little food to share and a story to tell. These little playground brawls are fun! I thought about running a line about the demise of a great Teardrop discussion site a few years ago, if you know of that event then you know where a thread like this can lead to. Be careful you all.

I think we should rename this thread to 'Campfire BS', and no flamming alowed.

Say Tony, what do you say we start a new club? You know they already have a 'Second Tear Club'. We could call ourselves the 'Pot Stirrers' Aw, Mike probably wouldn't approve and send it to Never Never Land.

This has been a good discussion. Except for one, nobodys getting pissed. So why would anyone want to stop the thread.

You all have a good day.

Gage,, did you say Pickle Juice,,, ???? west coast meets east coast,,, Now the Quality of Crown is set by the destiller,,, so the main difference is in the Pickle Juice,,, Just my openion and how I do it but I prefer kosher dill with a good hint of garlic for that aftertaste,,, I will probably get as many arguments for non Kosher but thats just me and my preference,,,, and if you dont like Pickle juice then I have olives just in case,,

the wide variety of personalities , tears, and backgrounds makes this hobby fun,,, heck if everybody was just like me I wouldnt like yall very much,,, Even the folks I have disagreed with would be welcome to park next to me and debate the merits of PJ, trailers, and life in general

first rounds on me :wine:
