I'm feeling might jealous right about now... If I was retired I'd have time to catch up on the Generic Benroy plans and fishing besides... Geesh, you're making me think about my last fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico, right off of Treasure Island... dang, that was a good catch!!!

Mike...

I know that hurt a bunch of guys but what can I say? Oops! :R Gotta go fire up the skiff, getting ready to go shark fishing off Daytona as soon as the water lays down a bit. I really should feel guilty here.... nah. Not even a bit!

I am one of those durned lurkers. I might contribute more often, but I only get internet every few days, so it is hard to get in the middle of a discussion.
I am a retired (sort of) cabinet maker who is planning an all wood tear (except for a little glue, nails, fiberglass etc.).
I'm hopeing to get full time internet soon!

Once, when I was young and impressionable I was an award winning photographer. That means I have the ability to take pretty decent photographs, but that does not mean I do it often!

When my wife and I were in graduate school some years ago, she painted pictures every day and I was going to take some REALLY nice photographs of them, but the store where they were stored burned down. Oops. No pics.

My mind is still working around the all wood ideas. I want to eliminate the traditional iron frame, and use box beam and torsion boxs. Right now I am working on the idea of curving the side walls (front to back).

Tonight I am at a daughters in Washington State. No wonder I don't get any work done, but I have email all night!

Great idea Dave....are you thinking about something like a cold molded process like on a wood boat? I was just thinking about how to make all the compound curves...sides can be bent...roof can be bent....where they match...angular or curved? Doug

Now THAT'S a teardrop!!!!!
Chris :D

The tension between what is good enough and what is beyond that creates the space for character to become our work.

Kevin...I see that the word Roswell is in that design...do you have some connections to area 51 or Roswell NM....what's up with that?, did you just let your cover slip? Just exactly what do you know and when did you know it???? ...Doug

That drawing was the subject of considerable debate on the old (other) board, I don't remember all the details, perhaps Gage or Grant can weigh in on it?

Living in Idaho, I am not exposed to a lot of boat building!!

My plan is to make the floor, including the integral tongue box, as a long torsion box. The sides would be made for the curved sides. Compound curves are a trick with wood any time, and with plywood particularly, so I think I'll skip it on this one!

I think I'd make the rough sides out of CDX fir plywood, but remove everything that is not necessary for strength and backing. That panel would be bolted to the base torsion box. The 1/8 skin would go on the inside first, then the form the roof in place, probably 1 1/4 thick, total.

Any open space in the sides or top would be insulated. I remember someone being adamant that the floor should NEVER be insulated, and that makes some sense. Besides, there is a 4 or 5" foam mattress to do a LOT of insulating.

The torsion box base would be pointed in the front, so the actual wood tongue would be less than 12" long -- and wood. The tongue box would form a triangle back to the top of the front of the tear, making that tongue extension strong. There would be a solid section in the torsion box floor to support the axle, and the tongue extension.

I think I'd rough in the cabinets in the inside before putting the final outskin in place.

BTW, nearly everything would be made from 1/8 plywood, with the box grids of Western Red Alder.

The rest is rouge and lipstick as they say.
