I am plastering my walls/ceiling. Our house is an underground concrete dome, and the inside of it needs to be plastered. I am currently using a portland cement based plaster. I might try out some gypsum plaster also. Another option is an earth plaster finish coat over portland cement base coats. With the work being inside, it does not matter the weather. :D

I am just doing a little now in the kitchen.. where I am going to be installing new shelves and counter tops.

Although I did get a call this morning that my last 2 windows for the porch had come in. It is a nice day out [now] and not long after I got back home with the windows, Laurie got home for the day. :D

The timing was perfect.. Life is grand... :) Our windows are installed, we are eating lunch now, and may go for a bike ride after.. :)

Would like to see a picture of that! Is it warmer then an above ground - stick built?

I will get you some photos.. It is two stories..and the south side is mostly glass so it is passively solar heated. The main house is 1985 square feet, and we are in an average 7500 degree day heating climate, [if that means anything to you?] and we heat the house with 3/8ths of a cord of wood. It heats very well. Yet if you build it right.. you can do very well with stick built. I have a friend of a friend.. that built a place a couple of years ago, I forget the size.. but his first winter, before he had hooked up his solar collectors. He could heat it with two of the little ceramic heaters.

a couple of years ago.. I redid things a bit.. I build a new sunroom /gym where the ground level decks were. and closed in the upper area.. then added a deck on the sunroom. I do have decks in front of the lower sunroom now also.

I have read about these types of homes and have seen them - but it sounds that this is a very economical building to live in - and especially in your area. So the main part of the roof (North side) is it covered with grass? And what about dampness............

Sweet....

Thanks

Our main entrance is on the north side. We enter onto the top floor. In that regard our house is sort of upside down. The kitchen, dining, and living room are upstairs. This is ground level on the north side though. We enter through a screen porch. This is an old photo.. the screen porch is being re-done, and I have added a small covered porch to it, and re-located the front door.

Until a few years ago.. it took about 3/4's of a cord of wood to heat the house. Doing the additions to the south side, made the house more comfortable, and cut my wood consumption in half.

3/8ths of a cord is an insanely small amount. The little bit of wood I cut doing trail work, produces more wood than I can use in a year.

Inside the house is lighter and brighter than most "conventional" houses. The only place moisture is a problem is a walk in closet on the north side, under the entrance tunnel. In August, when it is still cool in there, and it warm and humid outside.. it can be a problem. Better ventilation will help that. The long narrow covered deck upstairs that I closed in, is not a big solar collector, I need to find a better way of getting the heat into the house. It works well, but I could get more heat out of it.

The downstairs floor is dyed and stamped concrete. When we installed it, we did put radiant pipes in the floor. Those have never been hooked up to anything. I have thought about hooking it up to solar collectors, but it is hard to justify with as little heat as I need. Perhaps after I finish other things in the house. :D

Sounds like you have everything well under control...It is nice to see someone that walks the walk and talks the talk.

God morning from sunny Florida although we are having our coolest weather of the season with a high of70 and it dipped down into the 40s last night. Great sleeping weather.

Off to the races again...work.

Make it a great day where you are.

Hello threadies! :)

Sorry I haven't been hanging out much, lately.

I'm rolling into the slow season. I did, however have a good day yesterday, shooting -- and driving -- some really awesome cars. Three vintage Ferraris and a rare Porsche. Two customers were involved, so some double-billing went down. I do like that.

I'm really getting serious on the cooking hobby. It is not only fun, but saves money, and cooking almost all of my own food has led to some weight loss, and improved cholesterol and trigliceride levels.

We are a week away from our annual Christmas TD gathering at Lake Ray Roberts. That one is less than 30 minutes from home, which makes it cheap and easy. That will be the last TD activity for me in 2011.

I'll try and check in more often. Keep the thread alive!

CD -

Good to see that your still standing! It sounds like you had a great day! May I ask what type of Porsche did you get a chance to drive?????

The thread will never die - so don't you worry.

And that cooking for yourself does really work! Make sure you increase your grains and veggies. That will improve your overall health status very quickly.

Going up to Antentium for the Illumination - this will be a site to see.

OK - have fun and enjoy

8) Good morning all.
Had a great time at the Osbourne Dancing Christmas lights last night!
The display is amazing and strikes awe in everyone that sees it. It includes over 5 million LED lights and is programed to "dance" to Christmas music!

Still a little chilly here in Orlando, sunny and nice.

Make it a great day where you are!!

good morning.. we had sun.. but it is slowly clouding in.

projects projects projects.. I am not sure which one today. I have just run into town for materials.

I have house wrap to put on the new addition.. some of the old boards that need to come down, to put up more plywood. [just so all the thicknesses are the same] Some more wall boards to put up in the sunroom. Wiring in the porch areas.. and of course plastering.

It was a 1989 911 Speedster. They only made a couple thousand of them, so you rarely see them.
