Ira:
I do wish you luck with your wireless router conundrum.

However, I am not so happy you have solved it. This thread has
been more fun than all Reality TV (Except Deadliest Catch).
What a way to start the Holiday
There is nothing like an Ira Adventure. :dancing   :chicken: :cigar:

You have made my day and the steaks are not even on the barbie yet.

Thanks for sharing your pain and joy.
Now about the salmon......

Ladies and gentlemen...no, wait...only gentlemen:

Excuse me while I pause to wipe a tear from eye on this monumental, emotional occasion.

I rebooted, and she works.

I want to thank those of you (you all know who you are) for hanging in there with me. It was an emotional roller coaster, a plethora of bitter moments, high hopes, and crushing defeats.

It confirmed my hatred for all things Microsoft, although the desktop Mac wasn't treating me all that much better either. However, it also confirmed my faith in my fellow man:

YOU guys, whose love, support and encouragement I can only one day hope to repay. Of course, the love is always there from me for you--except I'm too stupid to help you with anything really substantial as a result of it.

When my son wakes up (he's still sleeping because he's a lazy little bastard like me), it will not be Independence Day for him today, but rather, more like Christmas morning. He will look at his daddy with awe, respect and love for getting him connected to the internet. And when he's an adult, he will look back fondly on this experience and the supreme efforts and sacrifices that me, his daddy, made--just to make him happy.

On second thought, I think that the first sign of senility or incontinence that I exhibit, he's gonna throw me right in a nursing home anyway.

And Dennis, the salmon goes in the smoker about 1. It's been brining since 1AM.

Ira,

Glad to hear you are fully up and running. NOW! You might want to do some research on how to secure your wireless network. You don't have to make it a vault, but should put in some security to keep WAR drivers out. (That's folks who drive around and look for unsecured networks and sometimes they are intent on doing bad things when they find one).

the reason the Ibook worked is, it used the airport connection between the Mac and the Ibook,,the router isn't in that equation.

Ooohhh--you waged $5000 on that Jeoardy question Mr. Jim, but I'm sorry:

The desktop is an older G4 without any kind of wireless capacity at all.

The iBook worked because Macs in GENERAL just always work. You simply dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure them out.

And Kerry, I set it up with WPA security,

Ira,

Glad to hear you used WPA. You can also limit the users by MAC addresses.

Ira, I've got a big lump in my throat, I'm so proud of you. To think that the windows challenged can get an xp machine working gives me hope for Microshaft in the future. In another twenty years they may be as user friendly at the Mac of ten years ago
Go get yourself a :guzzle: and have a great 4th.
