Getting old sucks

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Dusty82 » Fri Jun 17, 2011 10:51 am

Your latest post reminded me of a lot of things, 2bits - and I'm 50, BTW.

-riding all over town in the bed of a pick-up.

-riding in the camper on a 200 mile trip to the campground; usually on the over-cab bed and looking out the front window.

-leaving the house after Saturday morning cartoons and being told to be home when the street lights came on.

-Saturday morning cartoons that were just mindless entertainment and had no "message" to them

-rotary dial phones.

-asking for change for the pay phone.

-getting 2 cents for returning a glass soda bottle you found in a ditch, and buying several pieces of candy with that 2 cents.

-my dad giving me the 1 gallon gas can and a quarter, and sending me to the gas station on my bike fill it up - then demanding the change from the quarter!

Man - I AM old...

I remember going to Thomas Brothers' Market on the corner, with 12 cents to buy a comic book, and sitting on the floor in front of the comic books and reading maybe 4 or 5 of them before making my purchase. :D

It's the knowledge that waking up on this side of the sod is a priceless gift.
The annoying things begin to multiply.
The hair in my ears grows better than the hair on my head.
I'm more concerned by the "Here after" What am I here in the room after?
Everything that's supposed to stiff is flexible and everything that supposed be flexible is now stiff.
Almost all of TV seems so pointless. I'd rather read with my Kindle.

It seems to me the older I get the less I know.
I used to know everything.
Now I know almost nothing.
Pretty soon I'm not going to know how to turn the channel knob on the TV.

Hmmm. I might have missed something there.

If I had a dollar for every time I said, "The older I get the less I know."...
