I grew up in Western New York State and Western Pennsylvania as a little
kid and Western NY in the later years. The school that my Mom was
concerned about the teachers' seeing only mustard on the sandwiches was
Killbuck Public School in the little village of Killbuck, NY, outside of
Salamanca, NY, where I started school halfway into the school-year as we
moved from PA to NY, and PA at the time didn't have kindergarten in their
schools but NY State did.

I never included saltines though. That almost sounds like a Depression era
invention ~ to the mock apple pie made with the crackers. The only unusual thing
I do with saltines is to crumble a sleeve into my tomato
soup and stir until all the crumbs are saturated and then chow down. It's
also good to melt a slice or two of American cheese into the tomato soup
first. Unfortunately Campbells must have changed their tomato soup
recipe as it doesn't taste like it used to taste anymore. We have to squirt
some ketchup into it to help it along now.

Jeez, how did this turn into a food confessional post?

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

I grewup between eastern PA (Scranton area) and Long Island, NY - wnet to school in Buffalo. So maybe this is regional thing - Im thinking it's a Pennsylvania thing..................

Thanks

Hey, I grew up in north eastern Mississippi and that is how I still eat my tomato soup. And I used to love a mayo sandwich.

I thought they were Southern Thangs.

Not into Mayo very much - except my late Mom, she always kept a small jar
of Hellman's for her personal use as no one else in the family cared for it.

We were a Miracle Whip family! A main component in the family Potato
Salad recipe. And on garden fresh tomato sandwiches and BLTs.

Try a Miracle Whip and peanut butter sandwich sometime. Quite tasty and
it's also from childhood times.

Cheers,

Smooth, for my taste.

Back a few posts someone said they found kosher hot dogs that were not as salty. Any idea of the name or store you found them in? I haven't been able to find them.

Dogs

Postby nrody » Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:32 pm

This is all subjective:

So Cal Los Angeles area - Tommy's, Chili, tomatoe, yellow mustard diced onion and yellow peppers - Fries and a coke to go with.

Costco- yellow mustard, onion, saurkrout. (you have to ask for it)

Home cooked- Hebrew National - grilled, chared but not burned, never boiled- yellow mustard, diced onion, maybe krout if I have any

Ball Park - grilled, chared but not burned, never boiled- yellow mustard, diced onion, maybe krout if I have any

Never ever Catsup or Ketchup - Yuck!

I too would be interested. I love kosher dogs, but their salt content can be so high.

I think they were talking about Hebrew National hot dogs. They are good. No beaks and feet. They are actually my favorite, but if you are smothering the dog with chili, cheese and onions, then use the 70 cent hot dogs.

Ok..now I want a campfire roasted hot dog...charred and blistered skin, nice and hot inside. Throw on French's yellow mustard and that's all you need!!

Okay. Locally we have a place called Chili Dog's cafe. They make a wrap for a hot dog that I like a lot.
Take your 100% beef quarter-pound dog and wrap it tightly with bacon. Deep fry that until the bacon's crispy.
Now, wrap that product in a warm flour tortilla with about 3 tbsp of good pico de gallo (tomate picado, cebolla, coriandro, jalapeño, ajo y el jugo de un lima mejicana) and sliced avocado, and toast the result on a hot griddle.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. No need for mustard or ketchup, kraut or horseradish .........

How about Miracle whip, peanutbutter and Bologna
sandwhich? Tasted good as a child. Haven't had one since I was a child.

I like my hot dogs burnt, also good with crumbled potato chips.
