Postby Ma3tt » Sun Oct 23, 2005 11:22 am

So I was at Harbor Frieght, cause thats where we go, and they had a 22" frying pan for $9. So thats like 28 cents a pound! Its like a Flinstone frying, pan its huge!!! and got out the grinder and it does smooth out real nice. Im gonna do the whole thing before I season it. Anybody got some brontosaurus burger I can cook in this giant pan!!

Ma3tt, You'll probably season yours before I do mine. Let me know how it worked. If you like it, I'll smooth out the other pan and DO and season them all at the same time. Jim

Ok I ground it down smooth, seasoned it once it didn't take I don't think I got that big hunk o metal hot enough, so did it again it looks a bit better but I think Im gonna have to do the thing in the BBQ with some nice oak burning under it. I will update after the next try.

Hey Coop,

You pointed out a nice set. That looks like a Camp Chef set and they make nice iron. That would be a nice starter set until ya' catch the bug and have to buy a 3/4 ton truck to haul all your cast iron around in!

Joanne (Can only take some of her iron cause she can't afford the gas to haul it all around!)

Hi all, Been lurking for a couple days and thought I'd say hi. Also want to say that I have cast from old Wagner to new Lodge, and to me there seems to be no difference between smooth and rough. Some of you have talked about grinding you pans, and thats your choise, but do that to an old wagner or grizzy and you may turn a $700.00 pan into a $3.00 piece of junk.
Just one other thing. If you get your hands on an old cast pan one really good way to clean it up is to put it through the self clean cycle in your oven. I've even taken them to the local pottery shop and had them fired in the kiln. Works great!!

Scrambled my eggs (well, egg beaters) in a 6" lodge this morning. Cleaned it with a Quick round about with a brush and hot water and on the stove to dry. Better than none stick :applause:

Weight being a problem

Several of the motorcycle campers that I know use the aluminum dutch ovens that you can order from Campmore. (www.campmor.com) Spendy, but light. And you do not have to be concerned about screwing up the seasoning of the aluminum. Keep the cast iron at home where you can cook in "The Hole"

Question for Madjack, Dean or Mike,

Lately I've been using photos to link to URL's, is this a problem for the board or does it cause problems with posts opening in a timely manner for posters on dial up?
