I know this is an old thread but I had a major touch up this weekend,, In talking to the artist( female) she was telling us she does a lot of work with the cancer society and also with several plastic surgens who specialize in reconstructive surgery,, For women who have had radical breast removal due to cancer she has tattoo'ed an aireolo(spelling?) back so that there is less notice of the removal,, and try to give them some sence of back to normal,, she also blends in facial colors to help hide scars,, One of her clients had a gastric bypass and lost a huge amount of weight, had a skin reduction that left a scar around her body just below her waist line,,, they designed a vine to go over the scar ,, now she looks good and can wear a bikini

I never have thought about tattooing being for medical and psycological reasons but this sure was impressive some of the things she has done,,

Just thought I would share this

Thanks for the story Chip. I never thought of a tatoo being used for that purpose either. However, it does make a lot of sense. Glad some of the tatoo artists have the vision to help people overcome stressful situations.

Yep, it's very common actually. My brother does them all the time to hide surgical and not so surgical scars. You just have to wait till it is well healed or it can be just a bit painful!

Well, since Chip has renewed this thread I thought I'd put in my $0.02. My wife got a small tat in honor of the first grand daughter. Then had an addition to that one in honor of the second grand daughter then had a butt-topper because I don't like them. :lol:

I considered getting one to cover a scar on my left shoulder, but the source of the scar hurt enough. I'll get my endorphins via the chili, thank you very much. :shock:

One piercing , no tatoos yet.tough decision on what I want forever on my body........however I did meet a girl once upon a time that had a "w" on each of her ...er um "cheeks" when I asked why she said "so when I bend over , its says "WOW"

so I guess if you turned her over it would say MOM :bounce:
