It's so beautiful to hang back and watch the lead riders blow their fuel or speed by on a climb, only to pass them at the crest and slow down so they can catch up. Mid-way make the move. Increase the spin just enough to pull away, but slow enough so one can break with you. Then it happens, the big guy follows and roars past. Perfect...close the gap - draft. .2 miles later call Pull and he moves left, my turn to lead. Keep the rotation going 3 miles while incrementally increasing spin, causing the thighs a slight burn. Head down, hands on the drops and your slicing through the headwind while the bike brain reports 19 mph. Big guy tries to hang, gasps and falls away. Your solo now, seven miles to go. No chain, mouth open, air swirling in your lungs. The sun - an orange ball, horizon magenta and the cover green with recent rains, this is why pain feels good. Last turn, wind pushing showing 23 mph indicated, how long can I hold; not long enough and settle on 20 and finish strong. Cycle through the computer - smile - it was a good effort and a few minutes later the gang rolls up, bikes strapped or chucked into the truck bed - twist a cap and chug, taste like gold.

Seven months ago the best I could average was 8 mph, now I'm the best of the group.

now you need to find a faster group...

Way to go! And I like that sneaky layin' in the weeds stuff, nice chilly cerebral racing.

yesterday we did a group ride low 20's. I had hoped for more miles, but we did have a lot of work we wanted to get done yesterday also.

We are supposed to have a big storm coming... I am surprised it is not raining yet

So I am not sure if we will ride... go for a run.. do a little Kettle Bell work.. or take the day off...

new group is pain, the old group is a recovery ride. Balances the legs well......

But don't count the old riders out yet. Today four of us, rode around Lake Comanche with a detour climb to Lake Pardee. My 287 lbs combine weight spun up a 10% grade. One guy, bigger than me and close to 300 lbs combined walked twice...but he MADE IT. At 32 miles, I split with a stronger rider and rode 10 more. Low average of 13.7 but lots hills and total elevation of 2440 feet.

sunday so no formal workout, but I did play around with some #50 bags of deer corn at work, loaded up eight for one customer, then took some off another pallet to fill that one and empty the other.
Sotra like deadlift with floppy sack for weight, different from hoisting iron.
Jeanne did five on the bike, plus a major job of house cleaning we've been letting pile up, so that counts as cardio (trust me for her it's anaroebic, so has to be done in small bursts) and strength work.

I did not end up working our yesterday.... I fell down the stairs instead..

My foot is the worst. I will take today off.. and maybe try cycling tomorrow.

Stiff cycling shoes.. and non impact.. might let me go without further injury.. :worship:

we did a group bike ride today. It was pretty short because we don't have a lot of daylight after work. It hurt quite a bit to get my shoe on, that injured foot, but it was not too bad riding... :D

Couldn't post yesterday, Internet not working right. again.
Did my usual two ten min sessions with resistance after each.
jeanne also did two ten min rides.
Today of course twenty min straight.
Jeanne two tens.
Jeanne says she can see a differance in my shape, albeit a modest one, and she is for the first time in years developing an actual waist.
Not a tiny one but at least a somewhat defined waist
She told me today she's starting to get to where she feels good during exercise even though it's still hard to get started, and sometimes to stay started, and I'm starting to feel optomistic about her staying with it, instead of just hopefull

My usual ten and resistance twice.
Jeanne did ten once, but she also did some walkin today at the hospital (went to see her mother, who just had knee replacement surgery)
Doubt she did ten mins walking, but at this point that's still anaerobic exercise for her, like doing sprints.

Anyone else?

Keep working on improvement and the slow incremental gains become the reward. Little things help like planing your exercise to turn a corner at the moment the sun sets. Yesterday I rode a whopping 2.2 miles to the g-store to get bananas. Turned south, looked left and caught the sun falling behind a ridge. Made the hassle of suiting up worthwhile.

Always trying to improve. Todays workout my usual non resistance days 20 mins straight, noticed my speed only dropped below 13 (I'm assuming MPH) twice.
Jeanne her usual two ten min rides, noticed on the second her speed was up around 9 - 10 most of the ride, up from an average of 7 - 8 a few weeks ago
posting here and the encuragement is great, and Jeanne gets a charge and encuragement too knowing we're 'reportin' in'
