No time today, yet. Planning on a 2.5 mile run, depending upon how I feel here shortly. Getting dark soon, so I need to get out running.

knocked 40 out today. Sky's gray and a viewing a full garrison flag, started at 4 pm on the American river trail and showing an average of 15.7. No fuel except for the guacamole and chips for lunch and two bottles of water neat.

Chubby spandex boy rolled by and having none of that, spooled up to closed the gap. Chub passed another guy and noted the bike brain said 19.5 and gap was holding however something strange occurred. Stationary and moving mass merged and three of us were locked in some odd ball bike trail worm hole. All of us spinning away hitting the curves at the same speed and angles neither gaining or receding. Moved a gear and upon reaching the man in the middle, was completely gobsmacked - it was a young Clark Kent on a fixie, upright and pulling 20 plus. Held his draft for a mile and on a slight decline, pulled duty and closed on Chub. Both of us cruised by and shortly afterward the worm hole fragmented and everything was back to normal, meaning my legs gave up and Superman relaying much appreciation.

Rolled a few good efforts with other riders and without fuel the 35 mile mark said your done. Slow spinning to the parking lot and all was good.

2.5 mile run, then 15 mile bike ride.

Time to finish PVC 4-bike bike rack for garage and back of pickup.

We had plans to ride with others today... but all the others bailed.. :x

I think they were tired from this weeks rides.. and it was quite windy..

I was tired also but would have gone.

Laurie and I ended up going out for an easy mountain bike ride.

27.22 miles.. at 20.3 ave. I drafted the other tandem about 1/10th of a mile out of all that. I also sat up twice.. waiting for the others.. so our ave. would have been better.

Tomorrow night is our casual group ride.. so I also did some squats when I got in after tonights ride... :D

The ride "loop" is lollypop shaped. out to a loop and then back the way we came. The start of the loop.. is up hill... for about 5 miles... It is not steep.. but pretty steady. That is unusual for this part of the state.. if is more often up and down... lots of ups and downs. The other side of the loop does come back down [of course] but it is more rolly up and down..but with nothing steep [up or down]

It is named the Horseback road.. it is a blast. the ground slopes away on either side.. and the road is rather twisty.. rolling along a spine. It is a fun road to hammer.. :D

Bents

Postby mk10108 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 7:05 pm

Fenlason....

Need the scoop on a bent.

Other than all the bearded geezers or the occasional young wayward mechanical engineer having an affection for them, why would an upright what to ride one?

Doing a bit of research and overall they're not faster than than my 03 Trek. Should a bent be part of my retirement plan or should I jump in and get nutty with the clan?

First of all, as all upright bikes are not the same.. neither are all bents. They vary greatly.

I think if you look at many of the distance records.. point to point distance stuff... bents hold many of them. The fast ones are more efficient, and can be fast. Yet a bent in a pack of racers on uprights.. is not going to sit in the pack well. They don't change speed quite as well.. one can not stand and hammer. Yet if you were going out to do a 50 miler by yourself.. a fast one might be faster.

I have had friends that could fly on them.. Bill could have hung on the back of the tandem with me tonight. Yet he has also gone back to mostly riding an upright.

Most people purchase them for the comfort.

I do have a bent on my list, something we want to buy... Laurie.. and I want a tandem, recumbent, trike. Not that I am not comfortable on our current tandems.. the bike we are looking at is quite amazing. Riding a trike that close to the ground also feels great. Unless the terrain is hilly I suspect it might be quite fast...and it is low enough to the ground that no upright could draft off you.

Interesting...value your opinion.

My thought is solo long distance USS Longbike. Big bucks but see the value. Really feel quite comfortable on my upright and the last century I came home and made dinner for the in laws. No issues with comfort except the right shoulder...the one I hit during a fall while drafting. Still has not healed but quite livable.

Torn between a CoMotion Americano or recumbent......

Did not feel like doing the eliptical tonight. Twenty minute walk instead, plus resistance, of course. Was a much more enjoyable workout, and I'm trying to make the cheapo Stride cycle last, as it has started to make some unhappy sounds, esp. when I'm on it, using it as an eliptical.
Jeanne uses it as a bike, and it's not as noisy when she's on it.
Today she did thirty minutes.

Thirty minut fast walk tonight.
Jeanne did one twelve min ride.
We both did some cleanup around the house.
Also, although it's not exercise, did our first two up motorcycle ride today.
A little shaky at first, but fun!
