1st one kinda reminds me of me. Laid back, easy goin. & Not so Alert

Yep thats one thing that I cant see them in person as of yet. They are about 6 or 7 hour drive away from us. Near the Arctic Circle.

Im either going to drive or take a train to go get it around Xmas. Day before or day after.

Either will be wonderful (and gorgeous) and seemingly fated to be part of your family.

No way I'd draw personality conclusions off photographs, especially not a single photo. The first pic looks like she just woke up and she doesn't like the flashbulb going off.

I sympathize with that just-woke-up look. Maybe it's not that she's unenergetic, but that she just hasn't had her coffee yet.

After you get her you will have several weeks remaining of the critical "imprinting" period in which you can help mold the personality you want.

Give her as many positive socialization opportunities as possible -- with people (especially children) and dogs.

And avoid any negative, scary experiences -- especially with children or other dogs.

It's also a good idea to introduce puppies to people who wear uniforms, such as postal delivery, police officers. Gidget loves anyone wearing a uniform -- I believe she is associating them all with police officers who doted on her as a pup. My first Sammy did not -- equating all uniforms with the postman who attempted to break into the front door every day, around noon. I once put the mail through the slot and that Sammy pulled the mail out of my hand so fast it was like my arm was sucked into a vortex.

By the way, they both have nice pigment on their nose. Very nice.

Such all black noses make Samoyed breeders happy.

One sad note, is that the second pup with the yellow background does not have the pigment around the eyes or part of the mouth yet thus eliminating her from any competition (such are the rules here of the Finnish Kennel Association and throughout Europe. But, Riitta the Kennel Owner stated that it could still show or come about at a later stage but no guarantee, she stated that this is a trait of the Vanderbilt Dogs from Ontario but again I guess according to her also that the pigment isnt so strong of an issue in North America as it is here.

So if thats the case, we may get her anyway.. Im not sure if this showing thing is my cup of tea. The wife would like to though. It may be difficult for the Kennel to sell her at this point to many show people at present because of this issue. Other than that she is healthy and all is well.

But I have checked into the Therapy Dog program, the pup has to wait to get a bit older I was told. Id most likely enjoy that better.
This is all the news I have on this subject for now.

Heikki, are you looking to breed the dog? If not, then you you should consider having it neutered/spayed and get the one that doesn't have the better pigment .

IMO, Spayed and neutered animals make better pets. And leaves open homes for the more needy dogs& cats

Well, I explained how I pick my animals but just looking at the pics No. 1 says Lil Bear to me. I don't do all the important things with the dogs like show them, etc., I just love them so I am not one to give an opinion.

My Bear doesn't like anyone who takes our things, such as the garbage men. They come into our yard and take our "stuff" and he raises cain. If one of us are out there, he will let the garbage man shake hands but that is all. Uniforms don't bother him, just anyone who messes around in our yard. We sell Amsoil so we get a lot of UPS deliveries and Bear loves the UPS man. He can tell if he drives into the neighborhood and starts wanting out to wait on him.

Heikki I am so anxious for you to get your little one and show us pics of her with the boys. You will love which ever one you decide on and very soon be sure it was the right choice. Will you make your choice before you go to pic her up or after you get there?

Gidget's lip pigment is not 100% black, either. I'd have to look for the gap, though. Have never seen a Sammy without eye liner. It does look like your candidates both have those cute white eyelashes, though.

Pigment does often fill in later, that's why I was so impressed with the nose pigment on these two girls you are looking at.

I've had no interest in showing and am pleased not to have been obligated to show Gidget (who was sold to me as "pet quality" without a contract stipulation on showing).

Gidget's therapy organization prefers that dogs be at least one year old.

Gidget's Greenies arrived today, she's going to be a very happy pup.

Rich here is an example of A Therapy Dog.

Being in a hospital can be a frightening time for children away from the comforts of home and family, facing medical procedures and treatments. The use of therapy dogs has been shown to help reduce stress for pediatric patients and their families. Scientific studies are showing the many benefits, rangingfrom encouraging smiles and conversation, to motivating them during physicaltherapy.

Hiker Chick can better explain her dogs program. ;)

Here in Finland its mainly all voluntary work.

Partially yes its a way of phsycologically comforting a patient by having the dog near them. Relaxing the situation and bringing some sort of comfort and happiness to the life or painful situation as are the elderly or patients in a hospital. A comapnionship or.. numerous ways a therapy dog can help.

Thats what we hope to do later.
