Gas in your area.....

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby Ira » Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:58 am

About 2 years ago, I bought a bicycle to ride around town on the weekends. (Figured I had better after that last doctor visit.)

A month later I found this website here and the bike was worthless:

Ever try to get Luan home from HD riding a Schwinn?

Believe me, when I'm in California, I am shocked by gas prices. I feel your pain.

67% of that $7 is tax. Virtually no tax here is 'hypothecated' (collected and used for a particular purpose), so it just goes into the general tax pot.

No, but I do my best with other things. I've had 8ft lengths of small timber on my bicycle before now. I keep hoping I'll get on one of those police video shows as an example of how to overload a bike. A guy did manage it here - but he was carrying a ladder across the back of his scooter!

The next step is to buy a bicycle trailer and then I might go for the sheets of ply.

Been there done that. How else did you gather up lumber for that tree fort you built. You know the death trap made from lumber scraps with nails sticking out all over the place.

Ummmm. Don't know if I should ask but what the hey.....

Does anyone think it pertinent to gas prices that the guy in the white house is an oilman and then there is the matter of a very costly middle east invasion?

Only if we can think it pertinent that most politicians are heavily vested in oil and oil rich friends. 8)

The thread is about the price of gas in your area. How about we don't make it a political one, please.

Handy sites for gas prices (no affiliation, just like the sites):

GasBuddy has a whole series of local sites where people report prices for gas. It serves as a handy guage to local gas prices in your area. Looks like $3.00 around here.

They also have a national gas price map, which is also informative.

Some people thought I was crazy when I bought my 2002 Toyota Prius several years back -- now they're not so sure. :)

HAH! That brings back a lot of memories!

Only in Brooklyn, we didn't have trees--so we didn't make forts. We used to steal baby carriages for their wheels, and rummage everywhere for lumber to make go-carts, that were powered by good old-fashioned "pushing." (We didn't have hills either.)

I didn't mind, because being the shrimp, I always got to be the driver.

Caseydog Says:
Wanna be an isolationist? You could always start by not buying foreign-made products -- which would eliminate at least two-thirds of the things you buy on a daily basis

Well, reckon that gets into a trade discussion for sure. NAFTA etc. Trade absolutely falls into the Isolationist bit, but that really wasn't what I was alluding to.

What I mean by Isolationist is I'm just tired of helping everyone in the world and then they want to kick our teeth in. We rebuilt all of Europe & Japan after WW II and rightly so, because that's the kind of people we are.

We've helped everyone (near 'bout) in the world and then everyone has the gall to call us Imperialists! What the heck is that all about? We've never tried to conquer anyone for their land. (I know, I know, don't get into the thing about taking land from the Indians etc. That's a different topic altogether)

Anywhere we've ever fought, we've always left, eventually. I'm not talking about 'Nam, Domino Theory, Lend Lease Act etc. I'm talking about setting out to fight another country so we could conquer and take over. All the major wars we've been in; in our history, was due to the fact that somebody else started it.

I think most Americans are frustrated because we honestly see ourselves as the good guys, and we are. And we can't understand it when no one gets on board with us. Here we are, at war with Islamic Fascists, and lo and behold, everybody else is huntin' their hole!

All I meant was we should just take our toys and go home. Let the rest of the world figure it out for themselves. We're strong enough to stand alone.

My apologies to everyone for being political, I didn't intend to be. I'm sorry.

Back on topic ----- Gas in West Georgia is now $2.65 a gal.

Headed for Hunting Island SC next Friday in the Teardrop. Pics will follow uopn return. :)
I poked it with a stick..........

Miriam, thats your quote on this thread and if you review the previous 6 pages you will see more political discussion. I asked an honest question and clearly this thread has had political overtones all along as does nearly every thread in the off topic section of the forum. Perhaps you can enlighten me as to your quick squelch when I mentioned the elephant in the room?

Check your PM.

My statement was intended to keep this thread from heading into a "whose fault fight". It says the Government, meaning all the government. It was in response to drilling and taxes not whose fault.

Your question is about whose fault, specifically it lays blame. I have a whole list of who is invested but that is not what this tread is supposed to be about. You are free to start a who is to blame thread.

I don't understand any of this.

Like, how can the United States EXPORT oil at the same time we have to IMPORT it?

I say bring back free glasses and dishes with a fill-up. And bring back those Green Stamps and Plaid Stamps that you redeem for fabulous prizes. (New York thing only?)

And then they can charge me anything they want.

But this thread gave me a great idea for a story for my next issue:

"Energy Crisis Over! New Engine Runs on CRAP!"

We got plenty of THAT in this country.
