I'm starting to feel better, but still wonder if the Bloodthinners I am on are affecting my speed

I don't have any real knowledge on the subject.. but man. I would think they would..

What I do sometimes is put a bear bell on the bike and that way everyone knows where I am at all times, even if I am the slowest in the group
They have stopped maintaining the trails because they are putting in a big sports park, so the riding is getting dicey :x

We used to have a lot of trails in the area.. and a lot of mountain bikers. Then a lot of the trails got trashed by the growth of 4 wheelers.

I was a founding co-president of our local club.. and did a lot of trail work.. and got tired of loosing it... one reason or another.

We personally own 40 acres.. and it is hilly interesting terrain. I have a lot of trails crammed into that 40. It is a nice web of trails. I have easier trails next to more technical.. many many options.. but there are places.. 20 -30- 100 feet.. there is another turn.. 3way.. 4 way intersections.

The bell is a great idea.. in this case.. I think I would still loose them.

I did start wearing a bell during hunting season a few years ago. I could try that again.. It's bound to help some.

we did a 3 hour mountain bike ride today..It has been nice doing more dirt again.

The area we rode.. has a lot of new trails.. they are pretty tight twisty and lumpy.. It is a bit of a handful on the 29er.. I really felt I had to man handle it a bit. I might have to go back out with some of my 26" bikes.. to compare it..

Have a limited budget, so can't go carbon fiber.
I have a Specialized Epic full suspension that rides great and has the "brain" at the back..so quick to change for different conditions/rides

Yeah I really don't have any time on the brain.. my bike comes with that now. Except for the weight.. does it feel as efficient as a hardtail?

Depending on how you set the rear shock it rides like a hard tail. I like to set it so I get a little give in the back end, but not too much
The Specialized Epic is a great bike...a little heavy but climbs really well.
I bought it for the longer distance races (50km or 8 hour Solo) as those are the type of races that fit me well. I'm not fast but have good endurance.
The only complaint I have is that the front axel always comes loose and they have never been able to fix it.
I put a Grip shift on the left handle bar and find that works great
I'm not too worried about taking five lbs off the bike...I could lose 10lbs off of me

I heard the 29's are tricky on more technical sections

The guys at the shop are always buying and selling wheels. I would think it would be "safer" in person.. vs ebay or something. One can generally tell much about a wheel by looking at it. The only real hard thing to know.. is something like fatigue "limits" on things like spokes.

It depends in which way they are technical. I have done pretty good with this bike. Some of my trails are tighter than, that what we rode Sat. and I do great on those.

What we rode Sat. It is land adjacent to an airport.. and decades ago when they made the airport.. they bulldozed stuff out of the way. There are all these little ridges of dirt and rock.. out in the woods. Brian has made these trails along the top. There were not left in a straight line.. so they zig zag all over.. and it is very up and down.. and very rocky. Of the group I am riding with... I think it is only the trail builder that is beating me. He knows them very well... and has ridden them much more than I.

I think I have discovered it is best to purchase a bike, similar to what a trails builder uses...

I do look forward to trying some of my other bikes.. out there. I very well might find that some aspects of the 26 wheels will be better.. on this trail.. but other things not as good...

yeah.. I am a bit over race wait also........... 8)

I could actually try my Stump, with the back end locked out that would give me an idea. My next mountain bike will probably be one of the fat tire snow bikes [like a Pugsley]

Did a 52km ride today...chased some skate boarders on some fancy rigs going down Snake Road, and yes, that is what the road does...snakes all the way down. They hit 54km per hour and in a couple of spots were actually pulling away from me :applause:

We have lost enough evening daylight, or rides are getting severely shortened.. :(

We rode a little over 26 miles last night.

We are much farther north so haven't lost all that much. We will still be riding late for about another month
