So been trying to downsize some lately...And my question is I have a collection of paintings that I enjoy looking at, now with my tiny house build I know I'm wanting to take some of them with me ....but does it seem weird that I want to be taking art with me? I have not seen any other tinyhouses with giant paintings but thought I'd ask the question here as do they count as STUFF even though they don't do anything

Art is an important part of life.
So if you still get enjoyment from them, then by almeans add them to your bulid some how.

Hey you can't discard ALL art......you must, even with a simple, downsizing keep color and art in the equation. In our 830 sq ft home we have chosen a few pieces from other artists, but by far the most enjoyable are the blown up, matted and framed Photographs that we have taken of nature in her finest....
Even in our teardrop we have our framed photos inside on the panels of the cabinets. Art comes in all forms too....the drape of a curtain could be considered to be art.....you are the key and you make decisions based on your likes. Queenie Jeanne

As most know I am reducing into an 8 x 20 tiny house soon and struggle with the too much stuff question as well.

I am not a teckie or a computer junkie and am actually quite an old school antique but did stumble over an idea that I like. I am going to invest in a rather large flat screen that will work as a computer monitor and TV. I will take a photograph of my treasured Norman Rockwell prints and other memories and they can then be displayed on the monitor at will as a scrolling display or as the screen display. No storage problems no lack of wall space and a great way to enjoy artwork and memories.

Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

In regards to my art I have an oil painting that I got framed I'm thinking if I do it right I might be able to get a 3/4 inch plywood backing for it (it will never be seen) and hinge it so that way I'd have somewhat hidden compartment, as the one thing that I continually hear from tiny house owners is the lack of storage for certain items such as firearms ect ect so many people want to view your tiny house and you have to move certain items to keep them away from prying eyes..So my idea is to do a hinged cupboard of sorts that open up on an air strut system similar to the hatch of a teardrop was even considering having a remote for it that way some items can stay secure from prying eyes...out of site out of mind

BobHenry 8x20 is that on wheels and stick built solid? If you ever want to invest in the computer get a laptop and we have a very small roll about tilt top that the power supply/printer and laptop all fit right into. We have our flat screen tv fixed up so we can watch our photo DVDs also. We don't have cable or satellite....HD antenna and internet only. All of our movies are free from Prime Amazon, Hulu etc. Droid those hidden spaces are the best. We have some wasted space right now that we are tying to decide how to better use it. Queenie Jeanne

Hahaha I have 3 of them at the moment and looking at getting another one, I have some art that I'd like to be taking as well but then it's all the little nick knacks that one has collected over the years...This is a lot harder then it looks, but I'm sure I can do it

:? :? :? :? No not if you harden the heart and know that these are things without emotions.....downsizing for some can be a trauma. It wasn't for I or Dennis but we do still have a storage unit. We have to have it to house the three campers...we use all three for different camping....also my Mothers Journals....you can still have a storage, there is no law says you can't...though you downsize. Queenie Jeanne...now if you have a teardrop the three doggies will sleep there...we only have one little 10 lbs shih tzu....ha ha....
