Hi Joseph

here is the one on Jean Charles De Menezes

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Charles_de_Menezes

Obviously you cant really expect stop or I shot to have much effect on a suicide bomber, but this was a terrible tragedy

There is no debate (lawmaking) to get rid of pointed kitchen knives in UK. There were a few docters last year that have pointed out that they are the weapon of choice in domestics.

Police are Armed over here (some pemanantly, some for special events only) The ones that are armed are volunteers, who are then selected for suitability and then highly trained.

Stockwell tube incident worries a few people though.

Sorry George and England,
Last year there were reports on the internet and our news about the knives. Could be your doctors get more attention from our media than ours.

I had heard the dabate on guns with the police. When I was there 26 years ago there were none. You could still get knifed but didn't hear about shootings. (in London) Kinda nice.

I dont know the gun brand but there is a palm gun thats available, double barrel over under,,, one barrel is a 410 shotgun shell the second is available in 22,38, 357, or 44 mag, the first pull on the trigger is the bullet and the second is the 410 loaded with 00 buck, I havent shot one of these but I just bet it would be a bear to hang on to,,, but ya only got to hang on twice,,,

Yes, I carry...have a concealed handgun license. I've had a couple of jobs in the past where I did not feel comfortable without the handgun on my person (doing some field power plant inspections by myself all over the city), and found anything bigger than a small 9mm way to big to actually carry concealed. So, I have a small 9mm, and a couple of small .380 autos. They are small enough that I could easily carry all three on my person and not be noticed, but they are normally just within easy reach in the vehicle. And yes, have sufficent training to know how to use them...2 years on a pistol team, USN, but fortunately have not had to.

Got that right, Chris. It's kinda funny, my experience has been the opposite of yours - I can get a good group with my .45 ACP but I'm still all over the map with my .38 ACP. It's not flinching though, it's control - the little Kel-Tec is so small and light that the felt recoil is actually worse than the bigger, heavier Taurus. I'm good enough to hit a ten inch target at ten feet but that's about it. Need LOTS more practice.

BTW, a good way to tell how much you're flinching: have a friend load your piece but put a dummy round in. Do that regularly, varying how many shots you get off before reaching the dummy, and you can quickly learn to overcome the flinch.

Seems to be a mixed bag on this thread. However, it appears to lean in favor of packing heat.
I would rather be with protection rather than without protection.
I had a gun pulled on me one night in the parking lot of my apartment when I was in college. It was a truck full of drunken punks harrassing me.
However, my roomate heard the commotion and opened up the patio door of our upstairs apartment and unloaded his .357 magnum into the hood of their truck.
They could not get out of there fast enough. I am sure they could not have made it very far with all that lead pumped into their hood. But I did not care to go look for them.
I have been a gun collector for about 25 years. I dispersed of most of them when my children came along.
I bought a Taurus Titanium .38 about 4 years ago. Very lightweight. I will start packing this from now on. Want to protect me and mine.
In Texas, what is the law regarding transporting weapons if you do not have a concealed weapon license. I have been told that it was legal if you can prove that you are traveling outside of your home county overnight. Is that correct?

Best way to find the latest in state gun laws is to look here. Just click on the state you're interested in.

Another service provided by the NRA, BTW...

It just depends how short you go. Most states have minimum barrel lengths between 19" -21". I've got a Remington 870 with Pacmar pistol grips and a 21" barrel. Great house gun, but not something you would carry.

Like the links here, it opens in a new window. Maybe your pop-up blocker is stopping it?

In Kennesaw, GA there is a law on the books that it is required for head of households to own a firearm and ammunition. Of course there are exemptions, but most homeowners comply. As a result, Kennesaw has one of the lowest crime rates for cities of the same size in the nation. Think about it - no crook with any sense would break into a home in Kennesaw just knowing that the resident is more than likely armed!!

Here is information on Kennesaw's law:

http://www.gunowners.org/op0367.htm

My husband has a carry permit, and also used to teach shooting and gun safety to new deputies in his county. So I feel comfortable with him packing heat. He is going to be teaching me soon as well because I didn't grow up with guns (California - go figure!) and need to know proper gun safety and handling as well. He wants me educated, and I totally agree!

What happens when you (anyone) crosses a state line? I think some have a mandatory 1 year jail sentence for hidden hand guns..... maybe Mass... for one..... just curious.

Some of us us can hit 4 or 5 states on a trip.

Good for both of you, Cheryl! I understand - I too suffered a disadvantaged (California) childhood. Fortunately, I joined the Navy and they stationed me in South Carolina for ten years and then Virginia for another ten. That helped me overcome it.

That is a good point that you need to be aware of. I don't have to worry about that as federal law allows me to carry concealed in all 50 states.
