Hello, All:
What do you do while working hard on this forum to beat back the
many posts that come from everywhere? Well I have a suggestion,
Listen to radio and episodes of American lives. From all walks of life
you can take slices of peoples lives and see and hear the American
world maybe from a perspective you hadn't thought of before.
This American Life is a Public Radio Program with FREE streaming and
archives that are great to listen to while you are doing other projects.
These radio programs are about Americans in different situations.
Browse the many episodes on the left side of the main page and
see if you like this sort of thing to play while your working online or surfing. http://thislife.org/
To give you and example of great
listening here is one of my favorite
episodes.
Teenage Embed, Part Two
http://thislife.org/pages/descriptions/03/254.html An Afghan teen raised in California goes back to his father's home province in Afghanistan and reports on the reconstruction after the fall of the Taliban. Funny, charming, moving, and some of the best reporting from Afghanistan that you'll hear. Because his father is the governor of a rural province for the new Afghan government, the teenager – Hyder Akbar – has access to all sorts of things few reporters or foreigners get to see. The first installment of Hyder's travels to Afghanistan is also pretty interesting.
Here are some of the This American Life "Staff Favorite episodes".
