Dam, I am old because I remember all of the shows. Remote!, you must have been rich. I never had a remote until I was married in 1975,and bought a color TV. My parents would come to my house to watch Christmas specials, parades, and baseball. My parents TV antenna was on a large pole in the garden, and my dad would be the tenna-rotor. He would run out turn the antenna to get our stations, yes even in the winter. We actually had to get up & out to change channels. Like the movie said,Oh to go back to those days. Society is going to hell, and fast. Hope I am gone before we self destruct. Thanks for bringing back memories!

Danny:

Thank you for the trip down TV memory lane.

I sure remember those sights and sounds. That simpler
life and times sure bring back comforts.

Today we are bombarded with the words of war so much
that we get shell shock. I for one could have a channel
of all these past shows in the same time slots of the past.
Would be good for me to go back to a time when the illusion
of Presidents telling the truth and the TV bringing wholesome
entertainment was the norm.

Thank you again for taking me away from the world of war
and hatred and transporting me back to the bygone era of my
childhood for a few minutes.

I think you missed this part "(that was me)" as in I was the remote. Dad would say "put it on channel 2..4..6..11" and I got up and changed the channel and adjusted the antenna.

and i had to keep track of the pliers because the channel knob was busted.. probably accounts for my manual dexterity to this day!

... AND fear of aluminum foil... which i had to adjust constantly on the rabbit ears so the folks could watch the ed sullivan show.

When in High School I bought an old black & white TV from my aunt and used a coat hanger for a replacement rabbit ears antenna. Now we have to pay great sums of money for TV entertainment where a coat hanger would do before. Danny

There were eight of the shows that I did not remember. Those were the ones from the early 50's. All the others brought back vivid memories. I joined Uncle Sam's Misguided Children in 1969 and Mom and Dad still had a black and white TV.

I got married in 1971 and bought a color TV, 19" and I paid over $400. Now I can buy a 27" stereo, cable ready, remote control that I can hook up all sorts of stuff to the back if I only knew how for $200. TV'ss are now a throwaway item unless you've for a LCD or Plasma gigantic flat screen.

Remember going to the local grocery store and using the tube tester and fixing the TV yourself? Life was simple then. Bread, fresh veggies, potatoe chips, milk, dry cleaning, all delivered to your front door. Get sick? Call the Doctor. He'd come out as soon as office hours were over. Wanna celebrate something? Close the street down and have a block party.

Soda fountains, shoe repairmen, the 5 and dime, Full service gas stations, gas wars, and free knives if you bought 5 gal of gas. Boy did that bring back memories. I wanna go back!!!!!

If only I could turn back the hands of time.

I still use the old rabbit ears, I can get San Antonio, Austin and if it is raining in Houston I get those channels better than San Antonio's. :? it works for us.

Well sometimes, it depended on the day of the week, the time of day, the cloud patterns and the way the winds were blowing, among several other variables, but yeah, we had 4 channels.
